ABOUT THE INSTITUTE Interaction Design Institute Ivrea is a new centre for education and research in interaction design, based in Ivrea, Italy, with students and staff from 24 different countries. Its mission is to explore potential futures with interactive computer technology, and to develop new methods and insights into their design. The Institute has three arms: a masters programme, a laboratory for design research, and a knowledge-sharing initiative. Massimo Banzi Massimo Banzi is Associate Professor of Technology at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. He has fifteen years of experience in designing and developing enterprise applications. As one of the pioneers in commercial web development in Italy, he became webmaster for Italia Online. He then spent four years in London working as technical architect and project leader for customers such as the Labour Party BT, MCI WorldCom, SmithKlineBeecham, Storagetek, BSkyB and boo.com. After returning to Italy he worked as senior technical architect for Sapient and chief technology officer of the Seat Pagine Gialle/Matrix Incubator. Mr Banzi also taught at the Masters programme in E-Business at University of Bergamo. return to index

Eduardo Brambilla Edoardo is a product developer and style design consultant who has worked for many of the major industrial, design and architecture firms in Italy. His wide product development experience includes interior design and lighting, car design and toll gates, fashion fair stands and info kiosks, access control devices and diagnostics machinery, cash registers and coffee machines, type-writers and package design. Before becoming independent, he was employed at Design International within the studio of the architect Mario Bellini. return to index

Jan-Christoph Zoels Previously a Director of Information Architecture at Sapient, Jan-Christoph Zoels was responsible for strategic direction, creative scope and the integration of various aspects of the user experience. Prior to his tenure at Sapient, Zoels was responsible for strategic product development as a Senior Designer at Sony Design Center USA. There he developed concepts for Sony PDA, Electronic Music Distribution and various interface designs for interactive TV and remote controls. He currently holds four patents. Ryan Genz Ryan was a key figure in the developing media lab ASAP Media Services. Following, he worked several years creating interface design, research, and information architecture with Signal Interactive, a leading Chicago development team. Since joining Interaction-Ivrea Ryan has focused on experiments with physical computing interfaces for information representation and communication tools. Most recently he has produced a series of narratives for interactive story telling environments. return to index

Francis Li In addition to studying human-computer interaction with the Group for User Interface Research in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at U.C. Dianna Miller Dianna has developed interfaces and UI design guidelines for interactive TV applications and services at Microsoft WebTV, MetaTV, and iSurfTV. As a consultant, she created website architectures and design layouts for companies such as Apple, Viacom, and Disney. Previously she managed the conversion of Berthold AG's type library to Type 1 format at Adobe Systems.Microsoft WebTVMetaTViSurfTVAppleViacomDisney Dianna is studying how the convergence of TV, the internet and telecom technologies can create opportunities for viewers to become producers of time-based content to tell stories or exchange information. return to index

Chris Noessel Chris led the development of digital interactive projects for a science museum in Houston, Texas. He has since owned his own small new media company and worked as Director of Information Architecture in an international web consultancy. His studies in interaction design are tailored towards returning to exhibit design after graduation. return to index

Sergio Paolantonio As a researcher member of the IMG FH Mainz (Germany), Sergio collaborated with the IGD Fraunhofer institute on an augmented reality project with human-computer interaction, involving informal and gestural user interfaces and computer-supported cooperative entertainment practices.IMG FH MainzIGD Fraunhofer institute He continues to have a strong interest in user interface design and real-time systems. return to index

Jan Rapoša Jan's work includes everything from graphic, print and web design, to video production, animation, multimedia, games and electronic music. Dave Slocombe During his studies, Dave designed and prototyped full-scale working models of television and home entertainment systems as Head Product Designer for Roberts Technologies.
