2  The term stigma refers to any attribute, trait or disorder that causes a person to be labeled as unacceptable or different from “normal “people  People with a mental illness have a double burden. They must cope with their disorder and others negative attitudes towards those disorders.  Stigma is the use of negative labels to identify a person living with mental illness  Fear of stigma and discrimination discourages individuals and their families from getting the help they need Mental Health Stigma
