2 Speech Therapy (Tabitha Reuter): Language is a key part of a child’s academic success. Not only are language skills important for reading and writing but for interacting with teachers and peers. Speech therapy is beneficial for any child who has difficulty with one or more of the following:  Communicating his/her basic needs, such as hunger, thirst or pain  Comprehending other’s speech  Reading comprehension  Problems answering questions effectively  Expressing his/her feelings to others  Sharing his/her thoughts and ideas  Keeping or making new friends Therapy Station, PC. offers Iowa’s first Fun Factory Sensory Gym. Our 2500 square foot gym lets your child enjoy a colorful assortment of therapy equipment including: swings, monkey bars, a ball pit, slides, and rock walls in a safe, kid friendly environment. Feeding Clinic: Children who were born prematurely often have difficulty gaining weight and can have trouble transitioning off a feeding tube. Many children on the autism spectrum eat a limited variety of foods. Some children, who are otherwise typically developing, are extreme “picky eaters” and can benefit from feeding treatment. Your child will benefit from our feeding clinic if he or she:  Is not transitioning to solid foods  Frequently coughs and /or chokes while eating  Is not drinking from an open cup  Loses food from his/her mouth while eating  Frequently refuses to eat or drink  Is underweight and /or is losing weight  Only eats a few favorite foods Occupational Therapy (Brooke Hindman): Occupational therapy promotes skills children need for their “occupation”, which of course is play! Occupational therapists evaluate and recommend adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, bathing equipment, dressing devices or communication aids. Your child will benefit from occupational therapy if they have difficulty with any of the following:  Dressing, handwriting, using utensils (fine and gross motor coordination and strength)  Copying from a blackboard in school, batting a ball (hand eye coordination)  Seeing small differences in letters like “p” and “q” when reading (visual discrimination)  Difficulty attending and maintaining focus in school (cognitive skills)  Outbursts and inappropriate behavior in school (self- regulation)  Reactive to the feel of clothing, baths, haircuts and nail cutting (sensory processing) Physical Therapy (Andrea Wood): Your child’s individualized treatment plan will address his/her needs in the areas of balance, coordination, walking, endurance, muscle strength, range of motion, injury prevention, and an overall increase in independence. Your child will benefit from physical therapy if he/she:  Is delayed in reaching developmental milestones such as sitting, crawling, standing or walking  Frequently trips and or falls while walking (coordination)  Walks on his/her toes or his/her walking is different than same peers  (Infant) has a head tilt and or flat spot on his/her head  Fatigues quickly when playing as compared to his/her peers (endurance)  Appears “floppy” weak (low tone)
