5 WHAT IS REGISTRATION BLITZ DAY ? February 12 h Core teachers will make individual advisements for the course and level of course for the 2014-2015 school year. Elective teachers will discuss the courses in their departments. At the end of the day on Feb. 12 th, students will leave one course selection sheet with the school and take the other one home for a discussion with parents about courses to select for next year. Parent and student should sign the course selection sheet. Teachers are making advisement, however, the parent and student make the final course selection for next year. Elective course videos through advisory and online

6 Careful review of Graduation requirements Students will receive a transcript in the counselor meeting Needed requirements will be discussed The required 26 credits for graduation detailed in the Program of Studies Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Must meet satisfactory performance on all 5 EOC exams Four year plan discussed & input in Naviance

7 What if I failed a Required Course? What are your options? –Take it in summer school. –Put it in your schedule for next year. –See your counselor about a credit-by-exam. ($40.00/half credit; Review sheet on line @ www.dce.ttu.edu) www.dce.ttu.edu Remember, you must have 6 credits by August of 2014 to be classified as a sophomore, 12 to be a junior, and 18 to be a senior.

8 Will be June 17-27 & July 14- 24. There will be two semesters. Credit recovery and acceleration at Conroe High School Classes available for: Repeat Credit (Most academic core courses) First Time Credit (Health, PE, Communication Applications, Technology, Fine Arts, Govt. and Eco., Dual credit U.S. History) Accelerated Summer School—a few weeks longer than regular summer school, June 18-July 18. Initial credit Spanish and math with classes starting in late April Information and Registration Forms available in the Counseling Office Sign Up in April Total Credit = 1 Out of District Availability in the event your summer is spent elsewhere Summer School

9 What level of a course should I register for ?register for? What are your choices? (Level, Honors, Pre-AP, Advanced Placement) What is your teacher’s advisement? Will discuss on registration BLITZ days What are your past grades? How much time will be required? How much time are you willing to devote?

10 What level of a course should I register for? How much time will you be spending on other things? (school activities, church, community, jobs) Why are you choosing this level? How many other advanced level courses are you taking? There are only 24 hours in a day! Advanced course parent/student agreement required for all Honors, PreAp, and AP courses

11 How Much Homework?? Level Classes: 30-45 minutes per class each night the class meets Honors Classes: Approximately 60 minutes per class each night the class meets Pre-AP & AP Classes: 60 – 90 minutes per class each night, or more each night the class meets  Faster pace  More reading, writing, and research-based assignments Plan carefully and make good choices!!!!

12 Dual Credit Courses Juniors and Seniors may take Dual Credit courses. These are college courses that receive high school credit. Dual Credit core classes taught on the TWHS campus receives 6 points for an A. Dual Credit classes taught on the Lone Star campus and electives on TWHS campus receive 4 points for an A. You must take the TSI test and make certain scores, qualify with SAT or ACT test scores, or rising juniors can qualify with the PSAT in order to enroll in a dual credit course. You must qualify before the onsite registration date—May 1 st. Seniors may not take a Dual Credit course and also take an early release or late arrival unless the dual credit course is taught on our campus. There is a 2 dual credit course per semester limit. You must register on-line for admission at Lone Star College before mid April in order to be enrolled for the Fall term. End of May 1, Lone Star will be here at TWHS to register and take payment for dual credit courses.

13 Continuing Education/Workforce Programs through Lone Star College—will not require the TSI test for enrollment You must provide your own transportation. Awarded high school credit, but are taught at the Lone Star College facility in Conroe. – Certified Nurse’s Aid/Phlebotomy—Seniors turning 18 by Oct. 15. – American Welding Certification—Juniors and Seniors at least 16 years old.

14 These are programs in which you travel to Conroe or Oak Ridge for part of your day. Transportation is provided there and back. Course requirements may extend the normal school day and there may be costs associated with these courses. See the grade level office for information sheets about these programs. 15 What is the schedule for registration? Counselors meet with students during Feb. and March to review registration materials and instructions. Ask questions in the cafeteria at Counselors’ Corner during all lunches. Parent and Student Help Night, 4-7PM on February25 h –senior campus cafeteria. Course Selection Sheets and 4 year planning will be carefully discussed with senior campus students at your counselor meeting Feb 18th – March 28th. Your teachers will give you the date of your counselor meeting. You will turn in your forms with the parent and student signatures prior to your meeting date. ALL COURSE SELECTION SHEETS ARE DUE TO YOUR SCIENCE TEACHER ON THE SENIOR CAMPUS, February 18th OR TO YOUR ADVISORY TEACHER ON THE 9 TH GRADE CAMPUS, February 28th. On the senior campus your Science teacher will return your form to go over at your individual conference. You will receive a Verification Sheet in late April. Submit changes if needed when reviewed. Any changes must be submitted in writing and signed by a parent by May 9 h.

16 IMPORTANT POINTS Be sure you do your required summer reading! You will be given a test over this material. All schedule changes must be made in writing with parent signature no later than May 9 th, unless there is a failing grade at the end of the year or if a required course has been omitted by mistake. There will be no changes in course selection after this date.
