IP TV Solutions Key Advantages
MPEG-4 Client Portal The GUI for the client is entirely MPEG-4 and allows the content to include its own embedded controls Response times are comparable to proprietary GUIs and much faster than HTML or Java Compatibility with any MPEG-4 ISMA 2.0 standard RTP Stream Delivery Not reliant on MPEG-2 TS technology or licensing Less packet overhead with more resilient routing Internal stream indexing allows Network PVR Modular Services Network operators can choose VOD or EPG services depending on their business Additional services can be created using 4Mation™ Flexible Packaging and Rating More than any other IPTV solution, service providers can quickly build complex combinations of services into market specific offerings What makes the Envivio 4Front™ middleware unique is that it is designed so the client graphics and interactivity in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) are completely generated and broadcast in MPEG-4. Traditionally middleware was either a custom application (C++ or Java) or the middleware was in HTML. Embedded applications worked great, but they are expensive and time consuming to port to a STB. They are also very difficult to customize or extend with new services. The interactive intelligence is in the STB client. HTML is easy to port, any box with a browser can run the client, but performance is always unacceptably slow. HTML is never good enough to compete with existing digital TV services, it was not designed for TVs and STBs. The interactive intelligence is in the server. Using interactive MPEG-4 is the best of both worlds. It runs fast like an embedded application Supports flexible graphics and animation The MPEG-4 client is open standard EPG templates and metadata can be multicast over the network The interactive intelligence is in the content. Anywhere the content is decoded can see the same interactive EPG. The Client portal is based on a template created using the Envivio 4Mation™ authoring tool. It can easily be customized or expanded using a mature authoring environment.
