3 Meet Mrs. Lin- Red Class Hsiu Fang Lin is my Chinese name. You can call me Lin Laoshi or Mrs. Lin (ling). I am honored to be a teacher at Syracuse Elementary School. I graduated from Taiwan's Pingtung University of Education, and have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. In Taiwan, I worked as a teacher in the public and private kindergartens for over twenty years. In July 2006, I immigrated to California, and in moved to Utah. My passion is teaching children. I worked at Eagle Bay Elementary in the Kindergarten class for six months as a volunteer and have worked as a teacher’s aide in the Chinese Immersion classes at Syracuse Elementary for one and a half years. This is my second year teaching First Grade Chinese Immersion. Speaking English is still difficult for me and I appreciate your understanding and tolerance. I look forward to working with you and your children this year!

11 Lots Of Learning We are learning so much in First Grade! Your student will be learning to read, write, and many math concepts. There is a lot to learn, and not much time to do it in. It takes a lot of practice, and one-on-one time to master all of these skills! YOUR CHILD NEEDS YOUR HELP! Practice makes perfect, and most of the individual practice takes place at home.

12 Daily Homework Leveled Readers On your child’s exact reading level! 
Read, mastered, and brought back (almost) daily. Please sign the Recording Sheet in the student Folder.! Math/ Chinese One worksheet everyday. Return to school the next morning in the Homework folder. Friday use VOKI to complete Chinese Speaking Recording VOKI and Homework will be on Mrs. Lin’s blog the Monday of each week to practice Extra Math calculation practice will be added after October

13 Weekly Homework Multi –Use Folders
Folders come home with important information EVERY TUESDAY from the school. Please send the folders back on WEDNESDAY (the next day). Weekly homework packets will be sent home in the Folders on Monday from Mrs. Golde, and need to be returned the following Friday. Chinese Homework is on line at Mrs. Lin’s blog and is to be done once a week. Students will record themselves speaking Mandarin on VOKI.

14 Attendance First Grade is FULL of hands on experiences. These experiences can not be recreated, or sent home, in case of absences. THIS IS WHY ATTENDANCE IS SO IMPORTANT! We understand that sickness, and emergencies happen. Please do not send your student to school sick. However, please make every effort to have them at school ON TIME, EVERY DAY!

We assess students every Friday in multiple areas that we have been working on during the week. Language Arts Assessment Spelling Test The words that are sent home on Monday will be tested on Friday. Math Skills Quiz We include practice for these assessments in the weekly homework packet. Weekly Assessments are almost impossible to make up. Please make sure that your student is in class ALL DAY on Friday.

In order for your child to have the best experience in First Grade, we need all of the help we can get! ***Literacy Centers and Guided Reading*** 10:45-11:25 am and 2:50-3:20 pm **Math Help for Chinese Class** Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-10:00am and 2:00-3:00pm Volunteers will be working 1 on 1 with students in English **Tuesday Folder Help** 12:25- 1:10 Tuesdays *ANY TIME!* We can use your help for one-on-one time ANYTIME!! When signing up for a time, please be committed to coming at that time every week even if your child is in the other classroom at the time you come.

17 Standardized Testing Standardized Testing will take place the last part of April and the Beginning of May. We will announce the dates AS SOON as we know! IT IS IMPARITIVE THAT YOUR STUDENT IS IN SCHOOL AND ON TIME FOR ALL TESTING DAYS!
