1
The Purpose of Written Communication
2
Written Communication ● Takes many forms
3
Written Communication ● Is also more permanent than other forms of communication. ● You can save letters and Emails messages for references. ● Unless you tape record your phone conversations.
4
Written Communication ● The point is to get your ideas and information across. ● Format is different, but the skills of the writing process still apply.
5
Informal Letters/ Friendly Letter ● Is a letter you write to a friend or relative. ● It can be handwritten, typed or produced on a computer.
6
Parts of an Informal Letter ● Heading ● Salutation ● Body ● Closing ● Signature
8
Letter Contest ● You will write a friendly letter, mail it to a random school and wait to see who responds first. ● Once we receive a response, I will chart it on the map in the back of the class.
9
What to include in the letter ● Information about yourself ● School ● Community you live in. We are having a contest in our class to see whose letters get the quickest response. Ask the principal, can you pass the letter along to a responsible student who would be willing to reply to it? In your response letter, tell me a little about yourself, your school, and your community. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
10
Pick your School ● Once you have your letter is handwritten you will then pick a school. ● Find out what the principal’s name and address. ● Type out the letter.
