Short Term Effects of Cigarettes
When you start smoking cigarettes, the changes in your body can be monitored. Some smokers wonder what the short term effects of smoking are… A person's blood pressure and heart rate are increased This means the heart is working harder than it should The blood flow to the body's hands and feet is reduced There is short-term stimulation to the brain and nervous system Reduced appetite is seen in some people. Smoking is a poor way to try to control weight Bad breath Stained teeth & fingers Annoying coughing Reduced or loss of taste & smell A reduced immune system often sees smokers getting more colds and flu with longer recovery time Reduced potency in men & fertility in women It affects the skin. Making smokers look older, earlier.

Long term effects of smoking are really scary and you have to wonder why anyone would take up smoking in the first place. The body's respiratory system suffers the most damage The chemical filled smoke entering the lungs is the start of many things. There are types of respiratory infections that result from long term use. Pneumonia Chronic bronchitis Emphysema A lung disease that is irreversible, incurable, and in some cases fatal. The heart overworks causing vascular decease & coronary disease. All kinds of cancers are related to smoking; lung, mouth, throat, stomach, bladder, cervix and more.

Short Term Effects of Smokeless Tobacco
Makes your heart beat faster Can decrease your appetite. Can cause white leathery sores to form where chewing tobacco is held in the mouth. Eventually turning into Leukoplakia Can cause addiction to nicotine.

Long Term Effects of Smokeless Tobacco
Leukoplakia This is white, leathery-feeling spots that can develop into mouth cancer There are 30,000 Americans who get this disease per year. Only 50% of people with this survive longer than 5 years. Irregular heart rates & blood flow
