2 AssignPrelim1.2 Several assignments, covering aspects of Grid computing. Each assignment has a detailed write-up describing steps you need to take (see course home page). Some assignments use the portal Some require ssh into specific systems Some require you to use your own PC (or lab computer). Assignments

3 AssignPrelim1.3 Assignment 1 This is a critical assignment as it is used to set up accounts. Begins with requesting accounts. Then once account received, getting familiar with the grid portal. Then execute simple jobs on grid.

4 AssignPrelim1.4 Grid computing portal Established at: http://coit-grid02.uncc.edu:8080/gridsphere Portal provides single sign-on to all grid resources.

5 AssignPrelim1.5 Assignment 1 This assignment is set today and due next week Critical you do this assignment, to become a registered user. Follow assignment instructions Go to registration portlet and submit required details. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU REGISTER ASAP. It will be used to collect the class list and start the process of setting up accounts.

12 AssignPrelim1.12 Generally, produce a single 5-20 page PDF document. No other format acceptable. PUT YOUR NAME AT TOP!! Show that you successfully followed the instructions and performs all tasks. Include code with comments Brief explanation of code. What to submit for each assignment

13 AssignPrelim1.13 Take screen shots and include these screen shots in the document. –Number of screen shots is up to you but it should demonstrate your programs worked. – To include screen shots from Windows XP, select window, press Alt-Printscreen, and paste to file.

14 AssignPrelim1.14 For the record, state what programming skills and knowledge you used but already knew before doing this assignment. This information does not affect the grading, but may be helpful in subsequent course developments.

15 AssignPrelim1.15 Each assignment write-up will specify actual tasks to perform. Instructors will make a presentation prior to each assignment discussing precise requirements of assignment.

16 AssignPrelim1.16 DO NOT SUBMIT MULTIPLE FILES. BEFORE THE DEADLINE, YOU CAN MAKE A RE-SUBMISSION THAT REPLACES THE PREVIOUS SUBMISSION.
