2 Workshop 3: All Credit to You Aims of the Workshop  to give an overview of the new National Adult Achievement Award  to discuss its relevance to adult learners and providers across Scotland  to outline the pilots for the award in 2015-16 Marian Docherty, Depute Principal Gill Turner, Curriculum Manager

4 National Adult Achievement Award  SCQF Partnership funded local adult achievement awards developed by Community Learning and Development (CLD)  consulted widely on development of a national award for adults – positive response  SCQF/Education Scotland set up Steering Group to plan national award  Newbattle Abbey College was asked to develop national award  further consultation on draft award  Award submitted to Napier University in Dec 2014  National Adult Achievement Award was credit-rated by Napier University in January 2015

5 Features of Award optional context-free accredits adults for their learning in a range of places: community; college; voluntary sector; volunteering; workplace etc accreditation is at SCQF Levels 3, 4 and 6 based on Youth Achievement Model – portfolio of evidence

6 individual or group options local support for learners complements informal learning offers progression to further accredited learning supports Statement of Ambition for Adult Learning

7 Understanding the Award Learners should have been involved in learning in the recent past Learners should: – review learning – record learning – reflect on learning – plan how to further their learning Learners produce Reflective Journal – written or oral – aided by Learner Pack – assisted by local tutor/mentor

8 Reflective Journal should relate to Learning Outcomes of Award Level 3: 30 hours/750 words Level 4: 40 hours/1000 words Level 6: 60 hours/1500 words Reflective Journal is signed off locally –submitted to Newbattle Abbey College for QA process –certification

9 Why is the Award Relevant Now? Statement of Ambition for Adult Learning produced by National Strategic Forum for Adult Learning launched in May 2014 reflects extensive consultation with learners and providers 3 core principles re adult learning: –lifelong –life-wide –learner-centred stresses need for accessible provision with clear progression partnership amongst providers essential
