5 Differences between Reception and Year 1 Curriculum overview provided half termly on the website. Open door policy still exists, however class starts promptly at 8.55am so any issues or questions requiring discussion are best arranged for the end of the day. Head bump letters are still given, but other bump forms are no longer required for minor scrapes, etc. Medicine will be handed into the office, not dealt with by Year 1 staff. No longer required to email photos as learning journeys are not continued into Year 1. Phonics homework weekly, reading at home is required every night.

6 How we prepare the children Final 4 weeks of term will see the children put into their class groups. Circle time discussion – ‘Moving On.’ Visits to Year 1 Classroom. Visits from Year 1 teacher. Environment Week. Sharing learning journeys with new teacher. Weekly foundation stage assemblies addressing transition. Designing coat pegs labels. Producing artwork for new classroom display. Memory bag activity over summer. Digital information pack online.

8 How you can prepare your child Practice phonics and maths skills. Continue to develop independence with; getting dressed/undressed, toileting, washing hands. 9 Parental involvement in Year 1 Curriculum workshops will be organised during the Autumn Term if there is sufficient interest. Inspire sessions e.g. puppet workshop Class assembly Parent’s Evenings Christmas Celebration at Holy Trinity Easter Celebration at Holy Trinity Sports Day

10 Class Organisation 45 children in Reception Year 1 class of 30 children Year 1/2 class with 15 Year 1 children and 15 Year 2 Children Most children are ready for national curriculum learning. The classes have been organised by staff who considered a range of factors. (individual needs, effective friendship groups and those children who will benefit most from a more immediately formal learning environment.)
