1 Application Accessory For Cellular Phone - Characterization Presentation - Performed by: Avi Feldman Omer Kamerman Project instructor: Boaz Mizrachi Technion – Israel Institute of Technology Department of Electrical Engineering High Speed Digital Systems Lab

2 Overview Cellular phone is a widespread device. Its availability and its friendly usage make the cellular phone inseparable part of our personal items. Today cellular phone is used with wide range of SOFTWARE applications like communication, SMS, diary, games, music, multimedia etc.

3 So what's the problem? unstoppable technology progress. client that likes to extend its cellular phone capabilities, must purchase an advanced model of cellular phone with integral hardware and software. demand for accessory device which enable his owner to operate new applications and the ability to adjust them according to owner’s will.

4 Project Goals  Design and implementation an independent generic device which can function as a host platform of various applications for cellular phone.  Key futures: –Generic and versatile –Multi compatibility –Size - key ring format –Multi purpose hardware - Microcontroller, FM receiver, Thermometer etc. –Power source - cellular battery, low voltage supply –I/O - using the cellular LCD, Keypad –Communication interface - connectivity to PC for configuration

5 Project Goals (continue)  In order to exemplify the general concept we intend to implement prototype device.  Base on integral abilities can perform the subsequent applications: –DISTREES BUTTON –INFRA RED ALARM SYSTEM –THERMOMETER –ELECTRONIC SWITCH

6 Environment - HARDWARE MICROCHIP PIC18LF458 controller – Low Voltage. Destined hardware:  Electric thermometer – TC74(MicroChip).  Fm transmitter / receiver.  Infra red detector.  GPS card (optional).

9 Defining the device - features and Applications. Studying and selecting the Hardware. Design and implementation (wire-warp). Writing code for the communication protocol PIC/GSM (AT commands). Build basic driver for the PIC controller. Primal hardware check and debug. Writing drivers for the components. Writing the User interface (GUI). Integration, testing and Debug of the Software & Hardware. Mile stones (Semester 1 & 2)

10 Time Table – 1 st Semester Hardware selection – Middle of April. First Board design – End of April. Final Schematics Design (pin to pin) – Mid of May. Wire warp – End of May. PIC/GSM driver – Middle of June. Build basic driver - End of June. End of semester – Basic check,Simulate a primal test-case and manufacture the device.
