The examples that follow are representative of how it might feel to be GLBTQ and bombarded with heteronormative images in the media every single day. Imagine that these were the images that you saw every day.

18 According to the Newspaper Association of America…
The average person in the United States is exposed to over 3,000 advertising images per day. Almost 100% of these images are dictated towards a heterosexual audience (and white and middle/upper class…)

19 Thoughts… If you were GLBTQ, how would you feel about your sexuality if you were exposed to this many messages about what is “normal” or accepted in society?

20 It isn’t limited to print ads…
Now imagine that your exposure to media on the television and such were done so that GLBTQ images were the “norm” and heterosexual images or relationships were marginalized or on the “fringe” of society.
