4 Lenovo Networking Focused on Fast-growing Markets
Growth is in the Cloud Source: DellOro, September 2014 Data Center Ethernet Switch Revenue The data center network market is rapidly shifting to Cloud, (just like the server market) Growth is in server access Data Center Ethernet Switch Revenue Access vs Core Source: DellOro, September 2014 Server Access Switching: Largest datacenter segment Fastest growing segment All Lenovo Networking builds Key takeaways: Data Center networking is growing – that’s were we are focused (campus networking is shrinking) Within data center networking, there is the server access switches and core switches. Server access switching is much larger than core and has the highest growth Data Center Ethernet switch revenue is shifting to cloud Even for “rest of market”, private cloud is growing, traditional enterprise is shrinking. SDN is disruptive – making it an opportunity for network vendors Just as the hyperscale went to ODMs for servers, now they are going to ODMs for switches. Source: Dell’Oro, July 2014 Growth is in White Box (95% M/CSP) 30.6% CAGR Software Defined Networking: Causing market inflection point Creating opportunity for Lenovo 89% CAGR Source: IDC, August 2014 Hyperscale and MSP/CSP clients are adopting ODM switches, just as they did with servers 2014 LENOVO INTERNAL

9 Simplicity: “EasyConnect” mode
Aggregates compute node ports together There is no network integration. It is seen as a big pipe with compute node traffic coming in/out. Transparency - Difference: node traffic within the same vLAN can communicate with servers/VM’s connected to the device. Supported on; Flex System EN4093/R, CN4093, SI4093 Rack Switch G8124E, G8264, G8264CS Key takeaways: Now – some clients who might have a large network already in place with dedicated administrators, we have seen some expressed concern about having a 2nd vendors product to manage. This has come up with some Cisco clients as they don’t want to manage switches with another set of tools, but we have a simple answer. Lenovo’s Easy Connect Mode eliminates the need for any management with a couple simple commands we can put the switch into a transparent mode (not spanning tree or other networking worries) were networking management is done upstream for example at the Cisco Nexus 5K. The switch no longer functions as dedicated switch, but as simple I/O connectivity like a server adapter. This approach is somewhat similar to that of Cisco FEX or UCS approach were clients want to simplify management of the network, but this solution also provides the benefit of improving compute node traffic within the same group in the chassis or rack. Plus allows clients to leverage some of the best server and storage technology in the industry. Target clients: Those with larger networks and cisco networking team. They don’t want to manage something else. Like the concept of Cisco FEX, but like Lenovo servers Clients looking for fully integrated systems at a rack or chassis level Clients moving toward cloud and the concept of resource pools Gives your chassis/rack a transparent connection to your existing infrastructure CN4054 xNode CN4093 LACP vPC SAN A SAN B Nexus A Nexus B vHBA MultiPath vLAG 2014 LENOVO INTERNAL.
