2 Highland Junior High School Important Dates for 2015-2016 Thursday, February19 th: Registration Cards due to your Elementary Schools. Thank you! 6 th Grade Campus Visits 9am to 11:30am at HJHS Friday, April 24 - Carol Rae Ranch and Charters Monday, April 27- Val Vista and Pioneer Tuesday, April 28 – Superstition Springs Friday, May 8 - Highland Park Thursday, May 14- Towne Meadows

3 6 th Grade Visits Students will visit campus with their elementary schools. They will experience … skits performed by out Drama II students A Performing Arts performance a school tour by a HJHS Student Ambassador Classrooms visits 7 th grade lunch time All students will be given a lunch which includes lunch, milk and juice. If students want to buy snacks, water bottles, or other drink please bring money to purchase in cafeteria or Spirit Store.

4 7 th Grade Orientation Tuesday, July 28 th 8:00 – 10:00 am Hurricane Days July 28 th 7th Grade 10:00 am to 6:00 pm July 29 th 8th Grade 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Back to School Night August 4 th Parents and students follow student’s class schedule/ meet the teacher/curriculum overview First Day of Class August 5 th Schedules available at 7:15am MORE IMPORTANT DATES

5 Honors Testing Current GPS students interested in testing for honors classes need to test at their current junior high school at the end of the summer. Highland Junior High School on: Monday July 27 th at 8:30 AM

6 J UNIOR H IGH P ROMOTION R EQUIREMENTS 7th Grade Requirements Math Social Studies Language Arts (two period block combining English and Reading) Science Physical Education 8th Grade Requirements o Math o Social Studies o English o Science o Physical Education One half credit will be earned for each semester’s work successfully completed in each area. A maximum of 2 credits per year can be earned through successful completion of the offered electives.

8 “A” HOUR A – H OUR WILL BE OFFERED FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR. If a student is interested in A hour you must attach the A hour contract signed by both student and parent/guardian! Students who register for more than the number of credit bearing courses offered during the regular school day (7 at the junior high) will be charged a district-fee of $160.00 per semester course. “A” Hour begins at 7am and transportation is NOT provided!

11 P RIDE PROGRAM Write down class work and homework each hour in PRIDE Planner. Each student will be expected to be: On time to class Prepared with required materials to participate Prepared with completed homework A student who is unsuccessful is required to attend 9 th hour.

13 Some important topics to know….. Backpacks: Students should have a backpack to carry their binder, folders, notebooks, and personal items. Lunch: Students will have a 30 minute lunch period. They can bring or buy lunch. Online accounts available on the GPS website. Physical Ed.: Student will need to “dress out” and where a PE uniform of a grey tee-shirt, and navy blue basketball short. Available for purchase at Hurricane Days.

14 Dress Code: Student will be expected to follow the Gilbert Public Schools District Dress Code Policy. Hats off inside buildings, no spaghetti straps, appropriate length of shorts. Infinite Campus Online Grades: Students and parents have access to view grades, messages, absences, assessments, and student profile information. Chromebooks: Students will receive a Chromebook. Mrs. Taylor will give information in the gym presentation.

17 Optional, Non-Credit Classes For incoming 7th graders Math 7th Prep Class 7th grade students who will be taking Math 7 in August. This class is designed to help students transition from Elementary Math to Junior High Math Honors Math 7th Prep 7th grade students who will be taking Honors Math 7 in August.
