7 Background information… Research from June 2010 (Done during 2003-2004 school year) Reading abilities of deaf/hard of hearing HS students with IEPs 10 th -12 th grades: 18.8% reading at 9 th grade level + 47.7% reading at 4 th grade level – Two thirds of these students went on to postsecondary education: 29% attended 4-year colleges 71% attended two-year or less than two-year schools From Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students in Transition: Demographics with an Emphasis on STEM Education; Gerard C.
