Do Now: When something is taken away from you, how can you get it back? HW: Write about a time in your life when you rebelled. What caused you to rebel? What was the outcome of the situation? How did your life change after the event?

(Martial arts + Calisthenics) The “unfair treaties” that the Europeans imposed on China angered them, and they wanted the proper respect They take Beijing, and kill some foreign missionaries. Europeans come and fight back, and restore order, but Qing are greatly weakened

People were tired of the lack of prestige and honor that China had now after its elongated isolationism lead to a weaker army Decided to get a new type of government, ended up choosing a republic.
