1 EATING LOCAL V. RESTAURANT CHAINS THE SMALL LOCAL BUSINESS DEALS WITH DAILY STRUGGLES WHEN COMPETEING WITH MUCH LARGER CHAINS THAT HAVE DEEPER POCKETS AND MORE AMPLE RESOURCES BY: EVAN NORTON

2 WHY IS THIS EVEN AN ISSUE? Large Restaurant Chains/ Corporations are profiting off of selling us unhealthy/affordable food. Small local restaurants are losing business because they cannot keep up with prices from chains. The mass population prefers the ease of fast food which is killing fine dining restaurants. Quality of food in local restaurants suffers when they are forced to lower prices. V.V. Donald Thompson -McDonalds CEO -Random Small Business Owner $$VERY HAPPY$$ VERY SAD :(

3 WHY IS MY ISSUE RIGHT FOR GATEWAY? Eugene is a hotspot for local food, but big business is moving into town. Small Businesses are being pushed out by larger chains who have deeper pockets. Without local restaurants, Americans are being subject to a “fast food diet” and it is taking a toll on our nation’s health. There are two clear cut sides to my issue…. Convenience and Price are major upsides for chain restaurants and larger fast food corporations. AND THE OTHER SIDE IS… Local restaurants promote small business, their local economy, and usually provides healthier options. Visually stimulating and provides plenty of quality stories on both sides of the issue.
