2 Trustworthiness Vocabulary Definitions Loyalty faithfulness to commitments or obligations. Reliability that may be relied on; dependable in achievement, accuracy, honesty, etc. consistent. Diligence constant and serious effort to accomplish what is undertaken Honesty truthfulness, sincerity, integrity. The quality of being honest. Trust reliance on the integrity or certainty of a person or thing; confidence Integrity adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty Dependable worthy of trust; reliable Faithful true to one's word, promises, vows, etc. loyal or constant. Courage the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery commitment a pledge or promise; obligation consistency steadfast (unwavering, constant) adherence to the same principles

4 Ness Worthy TRUST List Areas where teens are supposed to be reliable: Describe the most difficult part of being trustworthy. How do you feel about peers who are not trustworthy? A survey of over 15,000 people asked which of these traits is the key to effective leadership: A) Being fair-minded. B) Being cooperative. C) Being honest. D) Being imaginative. 87% said being honest. Why?

5 Trustworthiness: Point of View Write down a few thoughts for each question below, and then choose one for which you will fully express your point of view: Often the personal character of public figures helps reveal why they made certain decisions throughout their life. Discuss the relationship between personal trustworthiness and the public life of individuals. Is personal character important in the realm of politics and public life? Why or why not? The science community relies on trust. Scientists must be people of integrity as they gather data for their work. However, scientists may be tempted to alter or modify their data – resulting in inaccurate conclusions. What might tempt a scientist to be dishonest? What consequences could result if a scientist is not trustworthy? It is important not only to have a specific set of values that we strive to consciously live by, but also to articulate (speak about) those values to others in a clear, concise and thoughtful way. Explain how important it is to be trustworthy.
