Centre of Culture and Leisure for Seniors: operates in a frame of Municipal Day-care Home of Social Assistance is an organizational unit of the City of Krakow is financed by the municipality is the bigest of Municipal Day-care Home in Krakow The Municipal Day-care Home consists of: 6 day-care centres 6 Senior Club Houses

I. The beginnings of activity of the day-care centre in Nowa Huta Canteen for the high - school students 1960s and 1970s - 1500 students (breakfast, lunch, dinner, 7 days a week) After 2000 - 60 - 80 people ( diner, 5 days a week)

Nowdays over 27% of the population of Nowa Huta – people agded 60 + June 2006 The authorities of the City of Krakow decided to refurbish the building and create a day-care centre for senior citizens

Our beneficiaries Over140 Seniors and disabled people Canteen (800 lunches) beneficiaries of the Centre beneficiares of Day – care Homes loceted in different part of Krakow residents of other Homes of Social Assistance in Krakow

II. The main tasks of the Centre The main tasks of the centre are: Providing care and appropriate conditions for a daily stay of beneficiaries (retired people, mainly with reduced physical or mental ability, lonely or with difficult family situation) Inspiring the establishment of the support groups and social networks by activating the local society The beneficiaries who stay in the centre during the day can take advantage of: Care services; Occupational therapy; Physical exercises; One hot meal; Good company of other seniors, participation in cultural events.

III. Charges, costs and savings Charges depend on an income of senior and range from 30 PLN to 150 PLN (from 8 to 38 EUR) per month Beneficiaries who do not have to pay for the stay ? seniors who are on a very low income (approx. 30% of our beneficiaries) seniors who attend The Senior Club Houses in Kraków ( they don’t receive a meal)

Costs The average cost of stay in a day-care centre in Kraków 3 600 PLN (900 EUR) per person and year. That is 300 PLN (75 EUR) per month. The difference between charges and costs is covered by: the Municipality of Kraków the external help like Food Bank (co-financed by the EU) private sponsors (mostly companies)

Savings In 2013 (from January to December) 1185 citizens benefited from the services of day-care centres in Kraków Where are the savings? the cost of stay in a day-care centre is much lower (sometimes even 10 times lower) then the cost of stay in a nursing home seniors get help and can stay longer in good health condition, but they still live in their homes/ with the family; we avoid social exclusion of seniors; we help the family carers (e.g. adult children or even grandchildren of our beneficiaries) to stay at the labour market
