5. Class Rank: 70 of 460 Based on Cumulative GPA. Ranks you against other students at BHS in your grade. Updates every semester, not 9 weeks. *Very important because colleges look at it and many scholarships are based on it.*

6. 4.093 A Cumulative GPA greater than 4.0 can be achieved by receiving A’s in AP classes due to the grade weight.

7. Transcript Includes: class rank, semester grades, cumulative GPA, courses taken, awards, and SAT / ACT scores Transcripts are sent out at the beginning of senior year, so the grades that you make freshman year are 1/3 of the grades colleges see. They do not see senior year grades.

9. SAT and ACT Majority of colleges in the US accept both Tests are significantly different, so depending on your skills, you may perform a lot better on one or the other

10. SAT vs ACT SAT tests critical thinking and problem solving, while ACT is more content-based SAT tests vocabulary much more than ACT SAT is not entirely multiple choice, ACT is ACT includes science, SAT does not ACT math section includes trigonometry ACT tests English grammar, SAT does not

13. Area 31 Cosmetology Radio Broadcasting Law Enforcement Automotive Service Technology Aviation Dental Assisting Culinary Arts MANY MORE *Area 31 programs are taken junior and senior year

14. Area 31 Career Programs Provide career based curriculum direction including much co-op experience. Many enable students to receive college credit while in high school. Most are held at the Ben Davis Career Center.

15. Cadre Classes Cadet Teaching EMT Marketing Engineering Fire Science MORE * Most Cadre Students leave to attend their class- for example cadet teachers teach in Brownsburg Schools and Fire Science go to the Brownsburg Fire Dept.

17. Extra Curricular Activities Aside from meeting friends- getting involved in extracurricular activities boosts your chances of getting a job and looks good on your transcript. College applications ask what activities you were involved in. There’s something for everyone.

28. “Everything Counts” Everything that you do during your high school years will affect you. You may not realize it right now, but the graduation process starts the moment you walk into BHS for the very first time.

29. “Make the right choices” Your high school experience will be much more enjoyable if you stay out of trouble, both in school and out of school. Don’t do things that you wouldn’t want your friends and teachers to know about.

30. “Take school seriously” Being a student is your job. You are preparing yourself for college and eventually for a career. You will benefit later on in life by applying yourself to your schoolwork now.

31. “Take interesting classes” Don’t take a class just because your friends are taking it. Take classes that apply to your goals in life. You will most likely have more fun in these classes, learn more, and meet new friends that share your interests.

32. “Ace standardized tests” It is important that you perform well on standardized tests in order to be accepted into a good college. Start studying now and take classes that will prepare you to do your best on these tests.

33. “Manage your time” You have the ability to effectively manage your time and stay on top. Good study habits and time management will allow you to excel in high school and still have fun with your friends.

34. “Get involved” Participating in extra curricular activities will allow you to meet new friends and contribute to the community. Also, extra curricular activities look great on your college transcript.

35. “Show school spirit” Sporting events are a great way to spend time with your friends, enjoy high school, and show school spirit. Follow the seniors and cheer loudly! You’ll be a senior soon, leading the cheers and showing the freshmen how to do it!

36. “Show respect” Respect your teachers, respect your peers, and respect yourself. Remember the golden rule: treat others how you would like to be treated!

37. “Be yourself and have fun” Don’t get caught up in the social pressures of high school. Don’t try to be something that you aren’t, just be yourself and have fun.
