1. O F M ICE AND M EN HALFWAY PROJECT

2. H ERE ’ S WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO : It is the halfway point in Of Mice and Men, and you will be creating a scrapbook of one of the characters portrayed in the book. THIS IS BASED ON WHAT WE HAVE READ SO FAR (not what you have heard or what you know happens). You have the choice of doing this project with ONE other classmate, or you may choose to work alone. Your scrapbook will contain the following…

3. COVER You will have a cover that is decorated with the book title, author’s name, chosen character’s name, and designs and pictures that represent the book. You may draw these pictures or cut them from magazines. If you choose to draw, please use color! (5 points)

4. DIARY ENTRIES You will have a diary of two different entries by the character you have chosen. Each entry must be at least ½ of a page in length (but can be longer) and must entail the experiences they are having. They may be hand written, but make sure it is done creatively and not just jotted down on a loose sleeve sheet. The diary will present the story from the point of view of your character. (30 points)

5. COMMENTS BY SLIM You will include an analysis of the character chosen as if Slim were writing it. Imagine you are Slim. What would you say about the events that your character has been involved in so far? What does Slim think of this character? This should be a minimum of ONE PAGE, creatively and properly written. Also, you must have a minimum of TWO quotes from Slim about your chosen character properly cited in MLA format. (20 Points)

6. LETTER FROM AUNT CLARA Suppose Aunt Clara were alive. Write a letter from Aunt Clara that arrives at the ranch the day before George and Lennie got there. How does Aunt Clara explain Lennie’s abilities? What are her suggestions for dealing with Lennie? This must be a minimum of ONE PAGE. (20 Points)

7. CRAZY WITH LONLINESS In a ½ page, describe the feelings of loneliness that your character has. Why are they in a lonely state? What are the reasons for their loneliness? Cite specific examples from the book. (15 points)

8. AMERICAN DREAM COLLAGE From the point of view of the character you choose, create an American Dream Collage that represents the American Dreams of that character. You may use pictures from magazines, newspapers, the internet, ect. The entire paper must be covered with pictures and all of the pictures may NOT come from the internet. The paper must be at least 8 1/2 “ x 11”. (10 Points)

9. HERE’S THE DEAL FOLKS! Your final project is worth 100 Points and is due Thursday, October 14 th. NO PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED LATE!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
