3 Let’s do this one together… 1.) Mrs. Jackson was commended by the school board and given a plaque for her incredible efforts to increase teacher pay.

4 2) Martin Luther King, Jr. was and is still viewed today as the paragon of leadership during the civil rights movement. 3) As a teacher, it is my job to open doors that lead you toward your future, not impede the path. 4) I have a natural affinity to watch movies that are based on classic novels; I just can’t help myself! 5) The inane freshman seemed to think that he could do little work, yet still pass all his classes. Oh, silly freshman.

5 6) Before you can begin to draft a paper, you oftentimes have to ruminate a little on the writing prompt to know what you want to say. 7) The senior’s reason for why she did not turn in her final research paper on time was quite dubious and resulted in a failing grade on the project.

8 paragon (n) A model of perfection; one who is widely respected Synonyms: exemplar, ideal, epitome, role model

9 impede (v) To interfere with or slow the progress of Synonyms: encumber, inhibit, obstruct, hinder

10 affinity (n) an attraction to or a liking for something or someone Synonyms: predisposition, bias, propensity, tendency, proclivity

11 inane (adj.) Someone who is silly and foolish Synonyms: naive, gullible, trifling, obtuse, fatuous, senseless, stupid Cricket chirps

12 ruminate (v) To think over; to ponder; to meditate Synonyms: consider, contemplate, deliberate, chew over

13 dubious (adj.) Something that or someone who is questionable or doubtful Synonyms: shady, suspicious, disputable, dodgy

14 Homework- Due, Tomorrow Write an original sentence using each vocabulary word. Make sure each sentence contains context clues that hint at the word’s meaning. Please circle the vocabulary word and underline the context clue(s) in each sentence. * This homework will be collected at the beginning of class, immediately after the tardy bell rings.
