What is this piece of paper in front of me? Understanding your transcripts Credit Connect Mini-Sessions

 Your transcript is an official record of ALL courses you have taken thus far in high school. It is an important document that will go to colleges and employers.  It is EXTREMELY important that your transcript is correct.  For the next few minutes, we will review your transcript. What is a transcript?

 Look at the top of the transcript and be sure that your address and student number are correct. If you need to make corrections, please email them to your counselor. CounselorStudentsE-Mail Tracy Tuck Students A-Eitracy.tuck@cherokee.k12.ga.us Sonia Murillo Students El- Lob Sonia.Murillo@cherokee.k12.ga.us Gayle Cuomo Students Loc- Riv Gayle.Cuomo@cherokee.k12.ga.us Karen Holton Students Ro-ZKaren.Holton@cherokee.k12.ga.us

 To the far right at the top of the transcript, you will see your weighted and unweighted GPA listed. These will be updated every January and every May.  The weighted GPA includes points for honors and AP classes and the unweighted GPA is based on the exact grades that you made in your courses.

 Your courses are listed in order of subjects. In each category, you will see grades for each semester you took the course. For example, under English for first time freshmen, there should only be one course and one grade. For most 11 th graders, there will be 5 semester courses and 5 grades.  Listed before your grade is the semester that you took the course. For example 14F = Fall semester of the 2013-14 school year

 For each passed class, you should have earned.5 credit. If you missed 7 or more days during the semester you will not earn credit for the class, whether you passed it or not, this will require you to apply for an attendance waiver to recover the credit Grading Scale 90-100 A 80-89 B 71-79 C 70 D Below 70 F

 How many total credits can you earn each semester?  How many credits do you need to graduate?

 You should earn at least 3 credits each semester and 6 each year (6.5 credits with homeroom credit). If you take courses through credit connect, online or at Night School, you can earn more than 3.  You must have at least 23 credits to graduate.

How is my GPA calculated???  There are 2 types of GPA, a 100 point scale (NGA) and a 4 point grading scale (GPA). Cherokee County uses NGA. The weighted NGA is used to calculate your rank in your graduating class.

The Numerical Grade Average (NGA) Your numerical unweighted GPA is easy to determine. Simply add all of your grades and divide by the total number of grades to see how it was calculated.

HOPE GPA Most electives are not included in the HOPE GPA. ONLY academic electives are calculated in the HOPE GPA. Each college calculates GPA differently. If you have an 88 in a class, you should try hard to push for 2 additional points so you will have an A!! Then you will earn 4 points instead of only 3!

 Only grades for your academic courses are included in determining your HOPE GPA.  You can view your HOPE GPA at www.gacollege411.orgwww.gacollege411.org

 Remember ALL of your grades are included on your transcript!!!  If you fail a class and make it up, earning an A the second time, the failing grade will still be on your transcript.

What can I do if I need to make up credits?

Credit Connect (Zero Period)  The Cherokee High School Credit Connect Program utilizes Apex Online Learning for credit recovery. This can be used for credit recovery if a student has failed a semester or entire year of a course.  Zero period is in the mornings from 7:15- 8:15.  An 8 th period may be available soon – after school  The cost is $200 per.5 credit of recovery.

Mini-Mesters  Mini sessions are teacher led classes.  These classes are usually taught before school.  Start January 20 th.  See counselors for paperwork and cost.  Examples of mini sessions offered:  Advanced Algebra A and B  Geometry A and B  British Lit. A

Other ways to make up credit  Summer School  APEX during the school day (usually just for seniors)  See your counselor if you need to make up credits.

What do I do if…  My transcript is incorrect?  I need to make up a class?
