Adverb Clauses are dependent clauses that act as ADVERB modifiers in a sentence. create COMPLEX SENTENCES because they are DEPENDENT. They answer questions like: How? When? Where? To what degree? They MODIFY adverbs, adjectives, and/or verbs.

Adverb Clauses PP 13-25a begin with subordinating conjunctions such as after, although, as, while, when, until, before, because, if, and since to introduce dependent adverb clauses. (Use the AAAWWUBBIS mnemonic to remember them.)

Adverb Clauses Introduce sentences: – Adverb (Dependent Clause), independent clause. – While Mr. Powell fought the zombie, our class hid in the gym. END sentences: – Independent clause adverb clause. – Our class hid in the gym while Mr. Powell fought the zombie.
