Eric C. Johnson PSD, MPC – Supreme Council

The POWER of TEN What is The POWER of TEN Program? Why The POWER of TEN Program? What is involved with The POWER of TEN Program? (How does The POWER of TEN Program help?) How do we implement the The POWER of TEN Program? When will we see The POWER of TEN Program starting to improve things?

The POWER of TEN Scientifically speaking it depicts the relative scale of a source, event, or action that when APPLIED can PROMOTE & SUPPORT logarithmic power - effect & growth.

Plain English PLEASE!!!! The POWER of TEN Program is a council membership structure that when promoted & adopted, significantly improves communications, recruiting, retention of members and supports greater participation in all council activities.

The POWER of TEN Why this Program?

The RULE of 150 The SIZE a Group is a subtle contexual factor that makes a difference in how a group operates. Groups of less than 150, individuals seem to have a genuinely social relationship… 150 seems to be the number of people one might not feel uncomfortable about joining in for a social event or evening.

But at about 151 (just the smallest change in the size of the commmunity) – suddenly – the Tipping Point is reached & the ethos/culture changes… the community starts to behave differently. The RULE of 150 (cont)

The POWER of TEN

What’s involved? How Implemented? 1.POWER of TEN Teams are to be formed by assigning ALL council to ONE of the POWER of TEN Teams in a council. 1.POWER of TEN Teams are to be formed by assigning ALL council members to ONE of the POWER of TEN Teams in a council. Assign ALL members to POWER of TEN Teams – whether or not they are active or non-active members. Consider placing members with specific interests on same Team Use Membership Interest or Admissions Committee Questionnaire to determine interests & use Survey to place members on Teams with specific interests.

The POWER of TEN 2.GK’s & DGK’s assign Leaders & Co-Leaders to each of the POWER of TEN Teams. Members to volunteer to be Leader or Co-leaders of POWER of TEN Teams Assign a Council Officer to each Team to provide guidance & representation; Encourage different Team members to lead and co-lead Teams. What’s involved? How Implemented?

The POWER of TEN Survey Team members - Inquire/Learn about Team Member & Family; Determine Member’s Interests; Determine if they “Active” or “Non-Active” members; Determine best methods off communicating with Team (i.e., e-mail, telephone, etc.) 3.Leaders & Co-Leaders make contact with POWER of TEN Team members. What’s involved? How Implemented?

The POWER of TEN Staying in contact is the key to the success of the program; Staying in contact is critical to having strong teams. Active Members who miss a meeting or an activity are contacted by the Leader or Co-Leader. Non-active Members should be contacted quarterly. Team leaders contact any member who is in arrears with his dues. 4.Leaders & Co-Leaders maintain contact with POWER of TEN Team members through the fraternal year. What’s involved? How Implemented?

The POWER of TEN Encourage Team Members to pariticipate in ONE or TWO activities or scheduled programs. Teams with like interests may support one or two of the council scheduled programs; Teams compete with one another for recruitment efforts, involvements, etc. A Little Competition doesn’t hurt! 5.POWER of TEN Teams may participate in one activity during the fraternal year. POWER of TEN Teams also pariticipate recruitment efforts. What’s involved? How Implemented?

POWER of TEN Team Responsibilities… The POWER of TEN Active Members who miss a meeting or an activity are contacted by the Leader or Co-Leader. Staying in contact is the key to strong teams. All Non-Active Members on each Team are contacted at least Quarterly. Team leaders contact any member who is in arrears with his dues. Each Team participates in Membership Drives.

The POWER of TEN A POWER OF TEN COUNCIL will… Meet their Membership Quota & Reduce their Membership Suspensions each year; Engage every member & his family who will find time spent with the council to be productive & of great value; Spread work around a larger group of volunteers; How does it help?

The POWER of TEN A POWER OF TEN COUNCIL will… Train potential new Leaders who will feel comfortable moving on as a council officer; Communicate effectively throughout the complete council roster; Have a stronger sense of value & success each Fraternal Year. How does it help?

How soon does it work? The POWER of TEN

Getting started? The POWER of TEN  Your Council has ~100+ members…  There are 10 – 12 officers that will participate…  Should be able to Field 10 - 12 Teams…  Should be able to get 2 – 3 Team leaders & Co-Leaders per Team…  Looking at splitting the roster up to include teams of 16 – 18 members per team.

The POWER of TEN POWER of TEN Team Important Notes…  This is NOT A PHONE TREE!  This will not replace the Calling Post Information phone calls;  Team Members can be traded or can move from Team to Team;  Team Waivers – or Cutting Team Member IS NOT ALLOWED!

The POWER of TEN How… when applied can this promote & support logarithmic growth…. Consider…. A council of 100+ members…. 10 POWER of TEN Teams…. Recruiting 2 - 3 Members each Team for the Fraternal Year. Result… 20 – 30 New members for that POWER of TEN Council.

Simple, Effective & Powerful If councils commit to adopt, promote and work the POWER of TEN concept, they will succeed !!!
