5 Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios Purpose of PDP “The primary objective of PDP is to improve the capacity of individuals to understand what and how they are learning, and to review, plan and take responsibility for their own learning, helping students: –Become more effective, independent and confident self-directed learners –Understand how they are learning and relate their learning to a wider context –Improve their general skills for study and career management –Articulate their personal goals and evaluate progress towards their achievement –Encourage a positive attitude to learning throughout life National Guidelines for HE Progress Files

6 Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios PDP Process Three learner activities are commonly identified: –Planning –Recording –Reflection ISLE Integrative Pedagogical Framework derived from –Effective Learning Framework (ELF) –SQA PDP

7 Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios ISLE Integrative Pedagogical Framework goal setting and “action” planning doing (learning through the experience of doing with greater awareness) recording (thoughts, ideas, experiences, evidence of learning….) reviewing (reflections on what has happened, making sense of it all), and evaluating (making judgements about self and own work and determining what needs to be done to develop/improve/move on) Iterative – not repetitive!
