2 Monster - Vocabulary prosecutor – (noun) the public attorney that leads legal proceedings against a person charged with a crime. I’ll call it what the lady who is the prosecutor called me. jurors – (noun) group of people sworn to deliver a verdict in a case submitted to them; members of a jury. She smiles at the jurors, and some smile back. felony – (noun) a serious crime, such as murder or arson that usually has jail time of at least a year or more. You were informed during jury selection that this is a case of felony murder. merits – (noun) the actual rights and wrongs of an issue. I know you will do your best to judge the merits of the case. infringing – (verb) to commit a breach; violate Most people pursue their own interests legally and without infringing on the rights of others. contend - (verb) to present a serious argument; debate The State will contend that one of those men was Richard “Bobo” Evans. testify - (verb) to declare or give evidence under oath in court Mr. Evans will testify that there was a struggle, which resulted in the gun being discharged and Mr. Nesbitt being killed impede - (verb) to restrict or block action or progress; obstruct Another was to stand outside the drugstore and impede anyone chasing the robbers defendants - (noun) a person who has a charge against them brought to court The 2 defendants you see before you will be shown to be participants in that act and are being charged with felony murder. evidence - (noun) matter produced before a court of law to prove or disprove a point, such as the statements of witnesses, documents, and objects.
