Gustar (to please/to be pleasing)

Parte 1: Before we begin…

“Gustar” does not mean “to like.”

Nope.

“Gustar” means “ to please.”

…Or “to be pleasing.”

You start with these:

And just one thing…

ONE.

Just ONE.

That one thing.

And if that one thing makes you happy, you say “ Me gusta (it). ” el

“Me gusta (it)” means “It pleases me.”

Or… in other words…

But no.

It means, “It pleases me.”

Parte 2: Thinking backwards

indirect object + gusta + one thing=

Por ejemplo… (For example…)

Or even…

Basically, you’re taking a thing and saying it pleases you… …only BACKWARDS. (That says, “Soccer pleases me” backwards.)

So basically, Me  pleases  the handsome taco. Which actually means… means… Me gusta

The handsome taco pleases me.

This is how you conjugate “gustar.” Notice it’s the indirect object that changes— NOT the verb.

You will never, ever, EVER use “me gusto.” Ever.

If you ever say, “Me gusto” to me… Hahahahahahahahahha hahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha…..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You will fail.

T he ONLY form of “gustar” you will EVER use to talk about one thing a person or group of people likes is “GUSTA.”

The Genuine Article When using gustar, always remember to include your definite article along with whatever you find pleasing. …As in, “A m í me gusta el chocolate. A t í te gusta también?” or “A t í te gusta la pizza? A m í me gusta también.”

Parte 3: Using “gustar” with plurals

Pay attention. is the ONLY word you will EVER use to talk about two or more things a person or group of people likes.

Por ejemplo… (for example…)

Minions please me. Me gustan los secuaces.

Doughnuts please you. Te gustan las rosquillas.

Supernovas please him. Le gustan las supernovas.
