2 In Spanish… When we want to tell a friend to do something we use informal (tú) commands… ¡Come! – EAT! ¡Camina!- WALK! ¡Duerme!- SLEEP! What looks familiar about these endings?

3 Commands are used for both do’s and don’ts Lets begin with the do’s (positive tú commands) To state the do’s of most verbs, drop the –s ending of the verb. STATEMENTCOMMAND (tú) caminas¡Camina!Walk! (tú) comes¡Come!Eat! (tú) duermes¡Duerme! Sleep! Positive Commands

4 Speak now!... -Verb hablar -Put hablar in the tú form= hablas - Drop the –s = habla ¡Habla ahora! (notice: there is no written subject) Let’s work on positive commands…

5 Drink water!... -Verb beber -Put beber in the tú form= bebes - Drop the –s = bebe ¡Bebe agua! (notice: there is no written subject) Let’s work on positive commands…

7 Negative Tú Commands To state the don’ts -negative (tú) commands –Switch the endings of the Tú form: the –as ending to –es the –es endings to –as Tú FORMCOMMAND tú fumas¡No fumes! Don’t smoke! tú corres¡No corras! Don’t run! tú duermes¡No duermas! Don’t sleep!

8 Don’t buy pizza!... -Verb comprar -Put comprar in the tú form= compras -Change the –as to –es= compres ¡No compres la pizza! (notice: there is no written subject and a NO is added) Let’s work on negative commands…

11 Verbs with spelling changes… There are several verbs that change spelling when made into negative commands to keep their sound…

12 These next verbs have spell changes… –Either gar changes to gue car changes to que zar changes to ce Jugar > tú form = juegas= No juegues jueges Tocar > tú form = tocas = No toques toces Almorzar>tú almuerzas = No almuerces almuerzes Let’s work on negative commands…

17 Positive IRREGULARES (Must Memorize) Hacer = haz Poner = pon Tener = ten Ver = ve What is the negative form? Ser= sé Use the Yo form (present) to Venir = ven form the negative. Salir = sal Decir = di Ir = ve (no yavas)

18 Pronoun Placement (reflexive, DOP or IOP) + attached to the command: aféitate, - In front of command: no te afeites, When there are two pronouns in a sentence the word order is: “reflexive + direct” = bañatelo = no te lo bañes “indirect + direct.” = daselo = no se lo des
