2. When did Colorado become a State?
Colorado became a state on August 1, 1876.
Ulysses S. Grant was the president at the time.
Colorado was the 38th state.

3. Nickname
Colorado’s nickname is “The Centennial State.”

4. Motto Colorado’s motto is Nil Sine Numine.
This means Nothing without Providence.

5. State Flower The state flower is the Rocky Mountain Columbine.
The Rocky Mountain Columbine was adopted the official state flower of Colorado on April 4, 1899.

6. State Animal Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep
A male is called a Ram and a female is called an Evve.

7. State Bird Lark Bunting
It was adopted the official state bird of Colorado on April 29, 1931.

8. State Seal
The triangle at the top of the seal contains the eye of God. Below the eye is a shield which contains snow-capped mountains with clouds above them. In the yellow area of the shield, you will find a pick and sledge hammer which represent miners’ tools. The state motto is found below the shield. It says “Nil Sine, Numine” which means “nothing without Deity” in Latin. The year 1876 at the bottom is the year in which Colorado became a state. The seal was designed by Lewis Ledyard Weld and William Gilpin.

9. State Tree The state tree is the Colorado Blue Spruce.
It was adopted as the official state tree on March 7, 1939.
The tree is known for its majestic form and beautiful blue-silver coloring.

10. State Song Colorado’s Song is Where The Columbians Grow.
This song was named the official song of Colorado on May 8, 1915.
It was written by and the music was provided by A.J. Flynn.

11. State Flag The Colorado flag was designed by Andrew Carlisle Johnson.
It was adopted as the official flag of Colorado on June 5, 1911.
The white symbolizes the snow cap mountains.
The blue symbolizes the clear blue skies.
The red symbolizes the reddish soil.
The gold symbolizes the sun.

On April 17, 2002 Colorado Governor Bill Owens signed a bill, officially make Rhodochrosite Colorado's state mineral.

13. State Coin Colorado’s state coin was released in 2006.
It was the 38th quarter in the 50 state coin collection.
On the coin there is a picture of the Rocky Mountains, Evergreen Trees, and a banner that says “Colorful Colorado”.
Inscripted in the coin is also “Colorado” and “1886.”

Juan Maria Rivera leads Spanish expedition in search of gold and silver in 1765.
France declares war against Britain and makes an alliance with the American revolutionary forces on July 10, 1778.
Gold was found by George A. Jackson along Chicago Creak during 1859.
In 1876 Colorado is admitted to Union as 38th state.

Dry winters with wind blown snow. Some very cold temperatures with some surprisingly warm days.
Low-humidity summers with hot days and comfortable nights. There is a big threat of thunderstorms.
Colorado receives some of the worst hail storms in the continent.
