2 A: Educational leaders model the routine, intentional, and effective use of technology Leadership skills: –Self-assess –Identify the technologies that would help daily Technology skills: –Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic calendar and e-mail, PDA, telephone, fax, cell phone, pager, etc. Implementation Ideas: –Model the use of technology daily –Research and choose technology wisely

3 B: Employ technology for communication and collaboration Leadership skills: –Simplify, don’t complicate –Encourage others to communicate effectively using available technologies –Understand community demographics Technology skills: –E-mail, calendars, word processing, etc. Implementation ideas: –Model effective personal use –Use a shared decision-making process –Maintain consistent parameters for communication

4 C: Create and participate in learning communities for improved productivity Leadership Skills: –Set realistic expectations for yourself and your staff –Make better use of the information that you have –Identify and deal immediately with potential obstacles Technology Skills: –Model positive technology use with online list servs, newsletters, e-mail, etc. Implementation Ideas: –Identify and promote professional development opportunities –Evaluate and plan for current expectations that need to be changed or retained –Encourage the school community to become involved in online learning and sharing opportunities

5 D: Engage in sustained, job- related professional learning using technology Leadership Skills: –Review feedback about current staff development –Identify areas where technology can be incorporated as a resource or delivery system Technology Skills: –Use online learning, self-paced video, CD-ROM based learning, teleconferences, etc. Implementation Ideas: –Schedule staff development opportunities –Match existing services to existing needs

6 E: Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and their potential use in education Leadership Skills: –Self-evaluate to determine if new skills are benefiting you in your work –Find local experts for advice and assistance Technology Skills: –Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic calendar and e-mail, PDA, telephone, fax, cell phone, pager, etc. Implementation Ideas: –Share information with staff through articles and discussions and staff development

7 F: Use technology to advance organizational improvement Leadership Skills: –Use a proactive approach when addressing areas of concern and be sensitive to the needs of others –Identify site issues and research possible solutions for concerns –Communicate regularly with staff and community about technology plan implementation Technology Skills: –Use planning software, e-mail, shared drives Implementation Ideas: –Meet periodically –Attend training sessions –Establish procedures and processes for evaluation –Develop an action plan and timeline for implementation –Promote discussions and thoughts about improvement efforts
