Pick up Textbooks/handout Entry Task: On a piece of notebook paper answer the following: Beowulf is more than 1,200 years old. What aspects of the poem do you feel has a more contemporary feel/theme than you might have expected? What might a modern-day Beowulf look like? The Anglo-Saxons valued Honor, Bravery, Generosity, Loyalty; do you feel that modern society values these principles? Explain. Place Glass Castle journals and incident report on corner of desk to be checked.

Why are watches so appealing to Jeannette (above diamonds and all else in the jewelry store)? people who have watches are important/have schedules and places to be; watches are practical 3. What is the plan Jeannette and Lori come up with in this section? Name two ways that Rex tries to sabotage this plan. (1 pt each, 3 pts total). a. they will save money and leave Welch. Lori will go first (after she graduates) and Jeannette will follow b. Rex he steals their money (breaks “Oz” open), he hurts Lori’s chance of a scholarship (destroys her bust of Shakespeare/erases his mouth), he brings out the plans for the Glass Castle, he warns them of the terrible things that will happen in New York 4. Why does Jeannette’s plan upset Rose Mary so much? They get to go somewhere and she’s stuck in Welch; she’s jealous 5.Why does Rex bring out the plans for the Glass Castle again? to convince Jeannette to stay; to remind her of their plans and dreams; to get her to have faith in him again
