Subject Pronouns The subject in a sentence tells you who is doing an action. People’s names are often used as the subject. –Examples: Lucas escucha música. Lucas listens to music. Claudia canta y baila. Claudia sings and dances.

Subject Pronouns You also use subject pronouns to tell who is doing an action. These pronouns can replace the names of people. –Examples: Él escucha música. He listens to music. Ella canta y baila. She sings and dances.

Tú, usted (Ud.), ustedes (Uds.) All mean “you”. Use tú with family, friends, people that are your age or younger & anyone you call by their first name. Use usted with adults you address with a title, such as señor, señora, profesor(a), etc. Usted is usually written as Ud. Use ustedes when speaking to two or more people, regardless of their age. Ustedes is usually written as Uds.

Who runs the world? GIRLS! Spanish grammar is funny! - There can be 99 ladies in one room. - If the group is all females, we can use the feminine forms: nosotras or ellas.

Boys… EWW!!! Spanish grammar is funny! –Boys like to be nosey. –Because of their nosiness: We cannot use nosotras or ellas anymore! –Unfortunately, we have to use nosotros or ellos. –However, it is “la fiesta de Señorita Vélez” so… She kicks the boy(s) out! We can use the feminine forms nosotras or ellas.

Make life & grammar easier! You can combine a subject pronoun and a name to form a subject. –Examples: Alejandro y yo = nosotros Carlos y ella = ellos Pedro y tú = ustedes (Uds.) Lisa y ella = ellas Heather y Ud. = ustedes (Uds.)
