Seismic hazards, as well as volcanic eruptions are the most distractive natural disasters (ND), Gained experience from many NDs have shown that Civil Protection was not prepared enough to palliate the emotional shock and burden that such events can cause to children Whom? It is primary addressed to children, including those with movement disorders, aiming to palliate the emotional burden and help them cope in case of a serious natural hazard, Secondary, to teachers, parents and other civil protection operators How? by raising awareness of children, by improving knowledge on earthquakes and volcanoes by educating relative groups (children, teachers, parents etc.) on the best practices and state of the art responses

C4 – Civil protection prevention and preparedness 2010 Kick off meeting – Brussels 17/12/2010 Objectives: to identify, share and implement best practices and methodologies gained from studies, previous EU projects and partners’ activities, to study and analyse the needs in each participating country, to develop and realize innovative initiatives and actions aiming to raise awareness and increase knowledge of pupils on earthquake and volcanic hazards, including those with movement disorders, to train teachers, parents or other relative groups to be able to contribute to children’s palliation, to constantly evaluate actions and outcomes of the project, to disseminate and share project’s results and outcomes to potential beneficiaries and broader audience on a constant base, and to build local networks of volunteers

C4 – Civil protection prevention and preparedness 2010 Kick off meeting – Brussels 17/12/2010 Main Deliverables (1): Management meetings (four), A Needs Analysis under which best practices and results of similar initiatives for hazard prevention and raise of awareness in younger ages will be studied, evaluated and adapted to the needs of participating countries, (30/11/2011) Guidelines for the identification of unexpected children emotions or behaviors and for palliation responses to children’s depression through edutainment activities, (30/11/2011) An innovative and mobile, experiential Educational Project connected with school curricula, (31/1/2012) A Travelling Exhibition to serve information and dissemination purposes,(31/1/2012)

C4 – Civil protection prevention and preparedness 2010 Kick off meeting – Brussels 17/12/2010 Main Deliverables (2): A Pilot Implementation Plan to be realised by school units, groups of children with movements disorders, parents and experts at museums or other educational centers with suitable infrastructures, as well as through internet, (4-11/2012) An Evaluation Strategy to monitor and evaluate produced educational projects and activities during all phases of project implementation, (4/2011) and A Dissemination Strategy which will incorporate several actions like publications, announcements, press releases, meetings and a web-page to host the results and outcomes of the project and to ensure the constant training and sharing of information (3/2011)

C4 – Civil protection prevention and preparedness 2010 Kick off meeting – Brussels 17/12/2010 Expected results: To increase knowledge on the earthquake and volcanic risk, on the consequences in human and infrastructure resources, as well as on the best practices, tools and procedures to prevent unexpected consequences to children, To offer specialized information to children with movement disorders on protection and prevention measures, To raise awareness of intervention operators, teachers and parents on the needs and responses to the emotional overburden and shock of children, To foster collaboration between scientists, trainers, civil protection operators, teachers and parents, To increase the effectiveness and functioning of museums and educational centers, and To contribute to the development of a lifelong learning based activity addressed to children, teachers, parents and civil protection operators

C4 – Civil protection prevention and preparedness 2010 Kick off meeting – Brussels 17/12/2010 Follow up Dissemination of project’s results will be continuous through partners’ institutional activities (museum, training centers, National Organizations) Mobile educational pack, Traveling exhibition and web-based outcomes will be used on longer base to share knowledge, practices and information to broader audience and actors Establishment in each country of National Groups of Stakeholders (local networks of volunteers, teachers and actors of civil protection) will benefit from and use the tools and the outcomes of the project Thank you
