1 AP Information Meeting

2  College-level experience  Will learn academic rigor, time management, study skills,  College credit  Scoring high enough on an AP exam can take the place of a college course, saving time and money  Place out of general education courses  Instead of taking these courses, you can move ahead faster in college to upper level courses  Can perhaps focus on more courses related to your major Why take AP classes?

3  2-3 hours long  Composed of multiple choice and free-response  For multiple choice, you are scored on the number of questions answered correctly  You are not penalized for incorrect/unanswered questions  We will test at Granville Magnet School AP Exams

4  5 = Extremely well qualified  4 = Well qualified  3 = Qualified (Able to do introductory-level course work)  2 = Possibly qualified  1 = No recommendation AP Exam Scoring

5  AP World History  NC State: Score of 3; Equals 3 credits  University of Pittsburgh: Score of 4; Equals 3 credits  UNC Pembroke: Score of 3; Equals 3 credits  AP Environmental Science  NC State: Score of 3; Equals 4 credits  University of Pittsburgh: Score of 4; Equals 3 credits  UNC Pembroke: Not applicable AP Exam Scores by School

6  Regularly scheduled AP exam dates:  World History: May 15 th at 8:00 a.m.  Environmental Science: May 5 th at 8:00 a.m.  Late-testing dates:  World History: May 21 st at 12:00 p.m.  Environmental Science: May 21 st at 12:00 p.m.  Students taking both must decide which to take at the regularly scheduled time, and which to take at the later date. 7  Exam date registration: Deadline is April 11 th  Exams can be ordered up to April 18 th, but will incur a $55 fee  Ms. Osinski, AP Coordinator, registers students for the exams Registration Dates
