13 DG ResearchEuropean Commission 13 DG RTD/E.2/JL - 8/16/2014 Scientific Support to Policy: Initial Research Priorities Sustainable management of Europe’s natural resources *The modernisation and sustainability of agriculture and forestry, including their multifunctional role in order to ensure the sustainable development and promotion of rural areas (35 M€) (trade negotiations, multifunctionality of agric., CAP reform, development of rural areas) *Tools and assessment methods for sustainable agriculture and forestry management (20 M€) *The modernisation and sustainability of fisheries policy, including aquaculture-based production systems (48 M€) *New and more environment friendly production methods to improve animal health and welfare including research on animal disease, swine fever and development of marker vaccines (10M€)
