3 Three things we must have before school starts in august
Everyone must have their beginning of year forms completed in Skyward – Family Access All 7th graders must have a copy of their up-to-date shot record turned into the nurse - do it now so you don’t forget. Any student wanting to play Football or tryout for Volleyball must have a physical turned in and online Rank one forms completed

4 Health Information Important Note: 7th Grade immunization requirements include: 1 dose of Tdap Booster if at least five years have passed since the last dose 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine 2 doses of Varicella vaccine on or after the first birthday (separated by at least 1 month OR a statement that your child has had the Chicken Pox illness) Please make sure that your child has had these updates to their immunizations AND that you have provided a copy of the shot record to your child's school nurse so that his/her records can be updated. YOUR CHILD WILL BE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE 7th GRADE UNLESS THEIR IMMUNIZATIONS ARE UP TO DATE

10 STAAR TEST 7th graders will take the Writing, Math & Reading STAAR test. 8th graders will take the Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies STAAR test 8th grade STAAR will be a Student Success Initiative (SSI) year for Reading and Math; they must pass to be promoted 8th graders will have three opportunities to pass

11 Minimum # of Minor Grades 6
Junior High Grade Calculation Academic grade weight for major grades – 50% Academic grade weight for minor grades – 50% PreAp grade weight for major grades – 60% PreAp grade weight for minor grades – 40% Academic and PreAp will have the following Minimum # of Major Grades 3 Minimum # of Minor Grades 6

12 Jr High Students taking High School Credit
High school credit courses count toward high school grade point average (GPA). Academic is 60/40 – Major/Minor – Art I, Spanish I, French I, Spanish for Spanish Speakers and any of the CTE courses. PAP is 70/30 – Major/Minor – Algebra I PAP

13 7th Grade Subject Selection
You will have 7 classes next year. Core Subjects – English, Reading, Math, Science & Texas History PE, Colorguard or Major Sports Elective – 1 Full Year

14 7th grade offers two levels of math classes –
7th Grade Math 7th grade offers two levels of math classes – Academic or PreAp Academic math teaches the objectives for 7th grade math. Students will take the 7th grade STAAR Math test. 50/50 grade calculation PreAp math teaches a few of the 7th grade math objectives and all of the 8th grade math objectives. Students will take the 8th grade STAAR Math test. 60/40 grade calculation, this sets the students in motion to take Algebra in the 8th grade.

16 Major Sports Must dress out Must participate
Must be passing all of your classes in order to participate in major sports events Must have physical from doctor and complete RANK ONE online forms prior to receiving equipment or trying out RANK ONE can be found on the LCISD website under the Athletic Department

17 Major Sports Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Tennis, Track Physicals will be held on May 18th at Foster Approximately $20 During the school day - Briscoe students 4:00pm – 6:00pm Wertheimer students

18 Physical Education Must dress out Must participate
Grade will reflect participation and dressing out Do not compete in UIL events Do not need a physical Color Guard/Pe is an option for 7th and 8th graders Dance/Pe is an option for 8th graders

19 8th Grade Subject Selection
You will have 7 classes next year. Core Subjects – English/Language Arts, Math, Science, US History PE or Major Sports 2 Year - long Electives – they do not change at semester

20 8th Grade Electives All 8th graders will get two electives
Art Art I – High school credit Gateway to Careers Career and Technology Courses – High school credit Foreign Language – Spanish or French – High school credit Band Orchestra Choir Theater Arts Yearbook (application required)

21 High School Credit Courses
French I and II Spanish I and II Spanish for Spanish Speakers – this is a 2 credit course Pre Ap Algebra I Art I Career Technology Courses: Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources- Prerequisite for Floral Design (counts as a fine art) in HS Principles of Hospitality and Tourism Principles of Applied Engineering

22 Online Course Selection
Students are required to enter their course request online in Skyward. Students use their Skyward login and select year course request 7th graders select English, Math, Science, History, major sports or pe and one elective 8th graders select ELA, Math, Science, History, major sports or pe and two electives Online student/parent access opens February 12th (4:00pm) and closes February 24th (8:00am)
