7 OUR ROCK IN TURBULENT TIMES

8 Are there enough headlines to hold our attention?
Which of those items do we focus on and which of them do I use to build a biblical message upon?

9 None, We have the solid rock of God and His unchanging Word.

10 Events during the life of Jesus
Luke 13:1-5 These are NOT God’s judgments and do not foreshadow the rapture or the tribulation. FB Meyer said, “We have no right to suppose that disasters prove the presence of special sin in those involved in them.”

11 Luke 13: [NASB] 1 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were [greater] sinners than all [other] Galileans because they suffered this [fate?]

12 Luke 13: [NASB] 3 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were [worse] culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? 5 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

13 Events during the life of Jesus
Luke 13:1-5 These are NOT God’s judgments and do not foreshadow the rapture or the tribulation. FB Meyer said, “We have no right to suppose that disasters prove the presence of special sin in those involved in them.”

14 Events during the life of Jesus
Matthew 10:16 We are sheep in the midst of wolves. Shrewd = thoughtful, discerning, intelligent, not easily shaken or disturbed. Serpent = cunning, sharpness of vision and focused on the goal.

15 Matthew 10:16 [NASB] 16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.

16 Events during the life of Jesus
Matthew 10:16 We are sheep in the midst of wolves. Shrewd = thoughtful, discerning, intelligent, not easily shaken or disturbed. Serpent = cunning, sharpness of vision and focused on the goal.

17 Events during the life of Jesus
Matthew 10:16 Doves = harmless, without a mixture of evil. Not naïve but innocent. 1 Peter 2:1-2, 11-12 1 Peter 3:13-18

18 1 Peter 2:1-2, [NASB] 1 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, ...

19 1 Peter 2:1-2, [NASB] 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe [them,] glorify God in the day of visitation.

20 Events during the life of Jesus
Matthew 10:16 Doves = harmless, without a mixture of evil. Not naïve but innocent. 1 Peter 2:1-2, 11-12 1 Peter 3:13-18

21 1 Peter 3: [NASB] 13 Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED,…

22 1 Peter 3: [NASB] 15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always [being] ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 16 and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

23 1 Peter 3: [NASB] 17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. 18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, [the] just for [the] unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

24 Trust God’s Word 2 Timothy 2:14-16 2 Timothy 3:1 - 4:5
2 Peter 1:20 – 2:3 Hebrews 4:12-16

25 2 Timothy 2: [NASB] 14 Remind [them] of these things, and solemnly charge [them] in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless [and leads] to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly [and] empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

26 Trust God’s Word 2 Timothy 2:14-16 2 Timothy 3:1 - 4:5
2 Peter 1:20 – 2:3 Hebrews 4:12-16

27 Trust God’s Word 2 Timothy 2:14-16 2 Timothy 3:1 - 4:5
2 Peter 1:20 – 2:3 Hebrews 4:12-16

28 Trust God’s Word 2 Timothy 2:14-16 2 Timothy 3:1 - 4:5
2 Peter 1:20 – 2:3 Hebrews 4:12-16

29 Hebrews 4: [NASB] 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

30 Hebrews 4: [NASB] 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as [we are, yet] without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

31 As the world falls apart, we can stand on the solid rock of God and His Word.
