1 What We Say in the Great Confession

2 What is it that we confess when we make our confession?
“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). What is it that we confess when we make our confession?

3 The Great Confession Says…
Jesus is God in the flesh In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins" (John 8:24).

4 The Great Confession Says…
Jesus has the reign in my life “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth’” (Matthew 28:18).

5 The Great Confession Says…
I need atonement “Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:1-2).

6 The Great Confession Says…
I need atonement “The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself” (Ezekiel 18:20).

7 The Great Confession Says…
I understand sin's consequences “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

8 The Great Confession Says…
I understand sin's nature “…but exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘TODAY,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13).

9 The Great Confession Says…
I understand I need to repent “Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:4-5).

10 The Great Confession Says…
I want to change “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter” (2 Corinthians 7:10-11).

11 The Great Confession Says…
I want to live in holiness “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:3-4).

12 The Great Confession Says…
I desire Christ’s blessings “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

13 The Great Confession Says…
Jesus is God in the flesh (John 1:1; 8:24) Jesus has the reign in my life (Matt 28:18) I need atonement (Isa 59:1-2; Ezek 18:20) I understand sin's consequences (Rom 6:23) I understand sin's nature (Hebrews 3:13) I understand I need to repent (Luke 13:3-5) I want to change (2 Corinthians 7:11) I want to live in holiness (Romans 6:3) I desire Christ’s blessings (Ephesians 1:3)
