15 What is Sparx? Each week your maths homework will be set for you to complete on Sparx. This homework will be personalised to you, which means the questions will be just the right difficulty for you. Remember to tell students that their homework may take a 3-4 weeks to adjust to their level so they may find their first few homeworks easy

16 Which homework type do I do?
Each week you will see three sections of questions that you can select from the sidebar. Compulsory Optional Target You must correctly answer all of these questions before your hand-in deadline. You can choose whether or not to do this. It’s only half as long as your Compulsory homework but is great for helping you feel more confident with everything you’ve learnt in maths. You can choose whether or not to do this. It contains up to 6 questions and will advance your maths skills even further. It is slightly trickier than Compulsory and Optional homework. Compulsory is around an hour long

17 How do I do my Sparx Homework?
Watch the following clip and listen carefully. It will explain what you need to do as you complete your Sparx Maths Homework. Use the student onboarding video with your class Note you will need to login to the Sparx Knowledge Base to access the videos and resources

18 How do I do my Sparx Homework?
You will need to click on the white bar that says “Homework due…” to expand your most recent compulsory homework. You will then see a list of tasks which you can click on to open them. We’ll go through this in the practice later.

19 Bookwork Checks Sparx will check whether you are writing down your answers. In a Bookwork check you will have to input the answer that you wrote down for a particular bookwork code, even if you got the answer wrong so it is important to make sure you write down all of your workings neatly and clearly. If you fail the bookwork check, you will have to do the question again, even if you got it right!

20 Bookwork Your book work should look something like this.
Remember, for every question you must write down the bookwork code and the answer you gave.

21 What is XP? XP (Sparx Experience Points) are how you are rewarded for completing homework. You can earn XP by completing homework tasks. You also get about twice as much XP for completing Optional and Target homework tasks! The amount of XP you have is shown at the top right of the page.

22 How do I know when my homework is finished?
Your homework is finished when you have answered every question correctly in your compulsory homework. Every task will be green and say “Completed” next to it. You can then choose to move on to Optional and Target homework. To do this, you will need to click on the relevant box on the left-hand side and follow the same process as for Compulsory homework.

23 Demo Now I will show you how to answer some Sparx Maths Homework questions before you have a go yourselves Username: demostudent Password: tiny28car

24 Now it’s your turn to practice!
You can practice doing Sparx Maths Homework on this demo site at the following URL: Username: demostudent Password: tiny28car This is not the same site as your real homework site Now might be a good time to give students their invite codes and usernames to the live site

25 Your first log in to your school site
Go to sparx.co.uk/studentlogin and select your school. Make sure you choose the right one as some schools have similar names! Click on “New User”, then enter the username and invite code I have just given you, along with your date of birth. You will be given your password and you must WRITE THIS DOWN!! Use your username and password to access your homework after this. Advice - these instructions have been condensed onto one slide so as it can be printed for students who you feel may need to stick it in their books and take home

26 Remember Your homework will be set on …….
Your hand out day will be ……. Your hand in day will be ……. If you get stuck on a question, remember to watch the video. If you still can’t do a question either come to Homework Club or come and speak to me before your homework is due in! If you don’t complete your Compulsory homework on time you will be given an after-school detention. Please add first homework date and hand out hand in days and edit or delete the reference to homework club and detentions if needed

27 And finally.. It is really important that your homework is yours and yours alone. Sparx needs to create homework that is right for you and that helps you to get better at Maths. If someone else does it for you or tells you the answers without you having worked them out for yourself, you will probably get homework that is too hard for you!

28 Please contact your Maths teacher if you need anything.
Best wishes from the Maths Team Mr Akram
