3 The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy - Europe
EU- initiative As part of the European Covenant of Mayors movement, cities and towns are taking climate and energy action to secure a better future for their citizens.

4 2030 commitments Adaptation- one of the Covenant’s pillars
European signatories pledge to : Reduce CO2 (and possibly other GHG) emissions by at least 40% by 2030 Increase our resilience by adapting to the impacts of climate change Energy poverty- social and equity issues integrated from an energy lense, not from an adaptation one so much- yet.

EU initiative, contributing to EU goals in climate and energy policy The Covenant of Mayors initiative is inscribed in the international framework, contributing both to the objectives of the The Paris agreement and of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development. The initiative also contributes to the European Union Climate and Energy policy and its 4 components. 7 The Covenant of Mayors in Europe
Out of which 2,200+ commited to adaptation The Covenant of Mayors is a movement shaped by cities, for cities of all sizes. It now represents nearly half of the population of the EU, in the 28 Member States. A unique bottom-up movement shaped by cities, for cities A shared vision of decarbonised and resilient cities where citizens have access to secure, sustainable and affordable energy A growing and inclusive community now counting over 8,800 signatories- small and larger cities (majority small)

Covenant needs assessment survey, summer 2017 590 respondents from 27 EU countries The Covenant of Mayors’ needs assessment survey results are based on a sample of 593 respondents from 27 EU countries, of which 87% are from municipalities and 11% are from provinces, regions & national ministries.
