4. Title I is a federally funded programs began under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESSA). The purpose of Title I- is to ensure that ALL children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.

11. What is required by law for Parent and Family Engagement?
As mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act of (ESSA), schools and districts must ensure that strong strategies are in place to:
1) Build capacity to engage parents and stakeholders in an effective partnership with the school
2) Share and support high student academic achievement.
3) Provide full opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency, parents of migratory children, and parents with disabilities.
4) Provide Information and school reports in a language that parents can understand, such as translated flyers or an interpreter present at meetings.

12. What is the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan?
Each school that receives Title I funds must jointly develop, review and revise, agree with, and distribute to parents and family members of children receiving services a written Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP).
The Parent and Family Engagement Plan outlines how the school will implement programs, activities, and procedures for the engagement of parents in Title I programs.
The plan will establish the school’s expectations for parent and family engagement and how the school will carry out the parent and family engagement requirements.

13. What is a School-Family Compact?
Each school that receives Title I funds must jointly develop, review and revise with parents, students and teachers, a School-Family Compact as part of the school-level parent and family engagement policy.
The School-Family Compact is an agreement that outlines how parents, the entire school /staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards.

Parents have the right to know the qualifications of their child’s teacher and if they meet the “Highly qualified” status.
