PE Class Rules, Guidelines & Expectations

Meet your teacher! Hi, I’m coach Pagiazitis!
I have a background in strength and conditioning and all barbell sports! I compete in powerlifting, Crossfit, and weightlifting. My specialty is building strength and power. I have certifications to coach powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, mobility, kids etc. I hold the NY state record for highest total in my weight class, 725lbs. at 128lbs Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist Meet your teacher! 1. Entering the Classroom/Changing
Once the bell sounds beginning a class, you will have the first 3 minutes to get changed and line up quietly in the hallway. The gentlemen will accompany Mr. Tufarelli in my class room, and the ladies will change in the student lounge with coach P. Backpacks must be placed against the wall behind the purple line, with your cell phone inside. NO CELL PHONES ARE PERMITTED FOR ANY REASON AT ANY TIME DURING P.E. *This is a tiered offense and detention will be issued! No exceptions! At the 4th minute, we will reconvene in the hallway-silently- and proceed down the stairs in two lines (M,F) through the cafeteria outside and begin instruction. **If you are not dressed and in line by the time we leave you will be marked absent and get an unprepared for the day.** 1. Students MUST change for P. E
Students MUST change for P.E. – This is not an optional decision anymore. It is a requirement. Students must wear their purchased PE uniform T-shirt and navy blue basketball shorts. The shorts must fit your waist and not hang below the knee. You will have 2 weeks to make these necessary purchases. If you feel you can not purchase these items please speak with Coach P privately. Long hair must be tied back and ladies and gentleman must both wear sneakers with socks. Please do not wear jewelry, it is a liability issue. 2. Attire

3. Hygiene Please wear deodorant! Please wash your gym clothes daily!
Coach P will have a stash of aerosol deodorant in her cabinet. If you forget your or need extra, just ask! Also, if you want to leave some here for your personal use, we can put your name on it and you can use it when you need to. *Deodorant is for hygiene purposes, not to be used as a football or item to be tossed or thrown across the room. Respect the privileges if you want to keep them!

4. Outside Guidelines Once we are outside Mr. Tufarelli and I will take attendance while you remain in line. At this time, the lesson will be given with demonstration as will be the standards. We will address the warmup which will involve dynamic and static stretches (5 min) We will go over the concept we are trying to gain comprehension of- “I Will” statement. We will have practice either individually or in small groups (5-10 min.) As a class, we will piece together the elements and play the game as a whole unit or two units depending on class size and concept (10-15 min) We will line back up in 2 lines and head back to the 3rd floor to change. Boys will remain in 311, ladies will remain in the student lounge until the bell.

Outside Rules: Be respectful of each other- this includes personal space. Be respectful of equipment. If something gets damaged, let us know right away. You must sign out to go to the bathroom- only 1 person goes at a time. You must participate. There will be no sitting during P.E.- Period. Your grade is determined through assessment of physical activity. If you do not move, I can not give you a grade and you will fail. If you can not agree to this, we can switch you to another elective. No fighting! Demonstrate sportsmanship- Show leadership skills even in losing. Encourage each other! Try something new! HAVE FUN!

Whistle Commands! 1 Whistle means STOP or START!
2 Whistles means SWITCH directions or stations 3 Whistles means class is over and it is time to line up to go back inside!

Inside rules: We will have to stay inside on very rainy days, and every Wednesday we will remain inside for HEALTH lesson. It is advised also that you use this day to wash your gym clothes! In classroom, ALL backpacks will be placed behind purple line with cell phones inside. I do not want to see your phone, I will take it away and you will have to go to the office to get it back in addition to a phone call to your parent. All you will need is a pen/pencil and a notebook to participate. If technology is required I will provide it via iPad or laptop. No food or drinks except water! Respect peers and staff

Inside Guidelines We will assign each student a number and you will write this number on your post it notes and index cards if we ask you to write an end of class before you park it on the wall. You must know your number so write it somewhere safe! You will be broken down into squad lanes in which to sit inside the classroom. These will be your teammates for the semester and group projects so be nice and get to know each other. Each squad will have its own color so if “red squad” is called and that is your team, you all move together. Sound level 0 during instruction at all times unless we are playing a game. You must raise your hand to speak. No shouting out. Only 1 person speaks at a time.

Leaving the Classroom You must ask Coach P or Mr. Tufarelli for permission to leave the classroom. You must present your bathroom pass to be signed. You must sign in and out in the log book with your name, time out and time back in. If I start to see it is not being filled out correctly the privilege will be taken away or lunch detention will be issued.

Medical Excuses Any medical excuse for an extended period of time must be obtained by a doctor. Student’s will show the doctor’s note to the teacher who will sign it and the student will be responsible for alternative educational health or P.E. related assignments during class time. If you get sick upon entering the class, or during class, you must get dressed first and then you may report to the nurse. ALL injuries that occur during class must be reported immediately!

Breakdown of Week/Change Days:
The schedule will adhere for the entire semester unless instructed otherwise for specific days which note will be given in advance. Monday-Tuesday-Thursday: Students will be REQUIRED to change out their regular clothing for P.E. Friday: Since students are granted the option to pay $1 to wear their spirit shirts on Friday, changing into PE uniform will be OPTIONAL. Even if you do not change, you will still go into the locker room and line up in the hallway as if you were changing. Wednesday: Health unit. Student’s do not change

Fire drill/Code Red Protocol
Code Red: Everyone must get into hard corner. Level 0 noise. Door will be locked. If you are out on a bathroom trip, you are to stay in bathroom stall with feet up. Fire Drill: Lineup and follow faculty to assigned meeting place. Fire drill/Code Red Protocol
