3 1. What is the CCS?

4 What is the Cultural Contribution Scholarship?
The Cultural Contribution Scholarship (CCS) offers international students at MSU, Mankato reduced tuition costs in exchange for good academic performance and community service (contribution hours) The CCS is a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to earn the scholarship each semester by meeting specified criteria

5 What are the criteria for the CCS?
Earn a term GPA of 2.5+ OR cumulative GPA of Earn 12 or more credit hours each semester (A, B, C, D or P) Complete and submit 25 or more contribution hours by the assigned deadline

6 How do I get this scholarship?
Complete all scholarship criteria the semester before (Ex Fall 2018, you will receive for Spring 2019; Spring is for Fall 2019; etc.) Stay in status Summer – you automatically receive the scholarship in summer if you complete all the criteria in Spring You do not have to do contribution hours in summer

7 How will I know if I meet all the criteria after each semester?
At the end of each semester, KCISS will inform you of scholarship status by university ALL OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION IS THROUGH UNIVERSITY The will either state you met all requirements OR that you did not meet all requirements

8 What happens if you don’t meet the requirements?
Cancellation of scholarship for the next semester One semester of probation from the scholarship You may re-apply after 1 semester of probation and if you meet requirements, the scholarship will be reinstated

9 What if I feel that my scholarship was wrongfully terminated?
In each student’s notification, there is instructions on how to appeal for the scholarship Appeal = A written request to the scholarship committee explaining why you believe the scholarship was wrongfully terminated NO LATE APPEALS ARE ACCEPTED

ENGAGE Let’s sign up together (if you haven’t already) Mnsumankato.campuslabs.com/engage Microsoft account = MNSU.EDU account MSU account = StarID and password Search for “Cultural Contribution Scholarship” Sign up for “Community Engagement Office” too More information on documenting experiences to come…

12 When do I need a pre-approval form?
If you found the event on “CEO” or “CCS” or brochure, you do not need a pre-approval All other events need a pre-approval This includes: RSO activities, church activities, etc. You must fill out all parts of the pre-approval and include as much information as possible KCISS staff will approve or deny within 1 week

13 How do I track my hours? For events posted through “CEO” or “CCS” organization pages, attendance will be automatically added ECHO Food Shelf, will be automatically added Be sure to sign in and out of the event with coordinator Double-check that coordinator will get the participation list to KCISS within 3 business days KCISS cannot post these events when coordinators do not send lists

14 How do I track my hours? For events and activities that you find on your own, and are not organized through “CEO,” “CCS” or Echo Food Shelf Experience Request on Engage Always need paper verification form Find the steps in “CCS” document Rules and Guidelines

15 What counts towards my 25 contribution hours?
Events that will be approved are: Must be interactive with nationalities other than your own Must be culturally related Must further professional skills or provide valuable experience for all involved Must benefit the MSU, Mankato or Mankato community Must be available to all (not a private event/opportunity)

16 What activities cannot count towards CCS?
Events/activities in which you already receive academic credit (including extra credit) or that are required by your class and/or organization (including fraternities, sororities, RSOs, etc) Playing a sport for a team or event Private or otherwise exclusive events Events in which you receive monetary compensation or prizes (including fundraising for an RSO)*** Events/activities for which a student worker would typically be paid to do

17 When do I need to finish my 25 hours?
Fall 2018 Last day to submit is DECEMBER 3, 11:59PM Spring 2019 Last day to submit is April 29, 11:59PM

18 What if I sign up for an event, but can no longer attend?
Cancel your RSVP as soon as you know you cannot attend (switch the RSVP to “no” on Engage If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or you simply do not show up, you will be penalized. 1st no show = 1 additional hour (26 total) 2nd no show = if event is x hours, x additional hours (Ex. 4 hour event, 4 additional hours, 30 total) 3rd no show = scholarship cancellation

19 What do I do when I finish all 25 contribution hours?
Download your co-curricular transcript from Engage Complete the final submission form on Engage with the co-curricular transcript showing 25 hours (or more if necessary) No final submissions will be accepted after December 3, 2018

21 What is CCCL? Do 25 hours in one location – guaranteed hours
Will appear on your MSU transcript Apply for the program and be placed at a location in the community or on campus Sign “contract” by September 28 Failure to show up or complete hours, automatic cancellation of CCS Great resume builder!
