Anti-federalists wanted guarantee of people’s rights NO rights are listed in the Constitution 200+ was whittled to 12

II. The Amendments First Amendment Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition This right stops when you: Harm others Endanger others Otherwise infringe on someone else’s rights Offending someone is allowed!

4 II. The Amendments Second Amendment
Right to keep and bear arms to maintain a militia Protect the citizens from the gov’t

5 II. The Amendments Third Amendment
No quartering of soldiers in private homes Intolerable Acts put British troops in American homes

6 II. The Amendments Fourth Amendment
Freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures The government can not just take your stuff This is why the police need a warrant

7 II. The Amendments Fifth Amendment
Right to due process of law, freedom from self-incrimination, and double jeopardy This means: All the rules apply to everyone “I invoke the fifth…” Can’t be tried twice for the same crime

Rights of accused persons such as right to a speedy and public trial

9 II. The Amendments Seventh Amendment
Right to a trial by jury of your peers

10 II. The Amendments Eighth Amendment
Freedom from cruel and unusual punishments Freedom from excessive bail

11 II. The Amendments Ninth Amendment
Cannot use the Constitution to take away rights, only ADD rights from the people

12 II. The Amendments Tenth Amendment
All other powers are reserved to the states Makes sure people are protected and included
