4 Agenda Homework & Test reminders will be written in their agendas. It is the student’s responsibility to write in their agenda. Please sign and check for notes!

5 Organization Each student has a binder and a set of subject notebooks in which to keep all assignments and handouts. Homework Nightly homework is to read for 20 minutes and practice math skills (multiplication) iReady math and reading are available through Classlink (formerly Launchpad) From time to time a worksheet, project, or other assignment may be made Friday Folders Graded papers will be sent every other week. General flyers will be sent home weekly in the Friday Folder.

6 Snack and Lunch Children can eat snack anytime
Please no cookies and candy Water only, no juice or Gatorade etc. All lunch money must be in an envelope or baggie labeled: Your Child’s Name, 4th Grade Birthday treats Please contact your child’s teacher at least 2 days in advance with the snack you plan to bring/send in during lunch in case of dietary restrictions.

9:40 – 11: Reading/English/Language Arts 11:39-12: Lunch 12:15 – 12: Science/Social Studies* 12:55 – 1: Recess 1:30-2: Specials *Science and Social Studies are on a two-three week rotation.

Grading Formative Assessment % Summative Assessment 35% Summative Assessments include: unit tests and major projects (and a note will be included in the agenda when one is scheduled) Formative Assessments are all other assessments such as quizzes, classwork, etc.

9 Hembree Springs Recovery Procedure
Our schoolwide procedure is that we will recover all failing grades to a maximum of 80% on tests. Students scoring below 70% will be offered remediation and recovery. Students who receive a grade between will have the opportunity to recover to an 80 upon request from the student or parent.  Students will be given a minimum of one week for remediation and preparation before a recovery opportunity is given. Parents will be notified a minimum of one week in advance of the retest date. Parents have a maximum of 7 days to request a recovery after grade publication in the event the child receives a C.

10 Positive Behavior Intervention Services
Tickets Best of the Nest Students earn Hawk Tickets during the school day for exhibiting the following behaviors around the building. Be Helpful Accept Responsibility Work Together Be Kind Be Safe At the end of the month they will participate in a rewards day party with their grade level if they earned 10 tickets. If not we will work with the individual student to set a goal for the following month. You will be contacted if they did not achieve the desired amount of tickets. Hembree Springs will recognize students for being “Best of the Nest.” These students emulate the Hembree Springs motto by creating a culture of excellence. They are THE BEST OF THE NEST!

11 Reading Areas of Focus Guided Reading and Reading Workshop Grammar
Fiction vs. Non-Fiction Focus on text structure vs. text features Dive deeper into the “How” and “Why” of character development and theme. Figurative Language Guided Reading and Reading Workshop Grammar Grammar Mini-Bites Parts of Speech Correct usage in writing Writing Workshop Narrative Informational Persuasive/Opinion Projects are possible but students will know far in advance before they are due.

13 Standards of Mathematical Practice
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Games, flash cards, homework helper, and worksheet can be found here Illuminations is an excellent website put together by the National Council for the Teaching of Mathematics (NCTM) for virtual manipulative activities Math games, logic games, word problems, math videos can be found on mathplayground.com Multiplication puzzles, fact practice, songs and games Cool math contains games, puzzles, activities and more.
