Section Title Employer’s Workstream – Bristol Hub By Tom Renhard, Liz Andrews & Lynn Stanley Hubs Networking Event (South) 4th July 2019

3 About the hub

4 Engaging with Employers
What we have been doing Press releases around the launch of the hub Employer’s Pledge signing by Bristol City Council with Mayor call out to Employer’s involved in One City Plan One City Plan – three ambitions in the pledge Promotion through Thrive Bristol – Thriving at Work workstream Engagement with the CCG Dedicated web page for information about the hub Working closely with Business West Promotion through social media and overseeing / working with action plans.

5 Engaging with Employers
What’s working well: Already established group supported by WellBeans – quarterly employment forum (following on from a conference at City Hall in March 2017) September 2018 workshop – Time to Change Employer Pledge Workshop Going out to businesses – October 2018 Cabot Circus business Support from the national team September 2019 – masterclass for those who are signed Offering training - CCG

6 Impact of work The hub in numbers
24 employers (20 in Bristol) signed up to the Employer’s pledge (including some employers in South Glos with large number of employees in Bristol) 8 have signed since start of 2019 (Babcock DST / Bristol City Council / Bristol Rovers / Care Forum / Ovo Energy / Sawdays / Speed Communications / St Monica’s Trust) 1 more have had action plan signed off and are due to formally sign in the coming weeks (CCG) 5 further employers due to sign by March 2020

7 Overcoming challenges
Issues to consider: Capacity and resources within employers (large / SME) Can be overwhelming for employers – break it down Recognise it is about meeting employers where they are at – it’s about building on their work Provide reassurance about process Support action planning process Initial planning meeting with employer Small level of resource to bring people along process Think about engaging with whole employer – not just HR!

8 Case Studies Bristol Rovers
First time going through this sort of process Small employer – circa 100 employees Engagement via HR Initially detailed work done to support action planning process Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Initial approach with Communications and Engagement team Supported development of action plan and will deliver training Discussion ongoing with CCG about how they can embed this with services they commission

9 Doing things differently?
Increase capacity and resources to reach more employers. Ensuring everyone is on the same page – London are a small team so bear this in mind when communicating. Clearer boundaries and expectations – where work of local hub stops and where national team starts. Activities don’t need to stop with employers you are working with whilst waiting for action plan to be signed off – lots of resources available! Do remember that not everyone has heard of Time to Change (although we would like to think otherwise!), so you may need to explain about the work to employers before diving into the pledge!

15 Challenges Time delays Expectations of employers
Commitment by senior managers to pledge - getting the action plan completed is another story IT letting us down – don’t rely on it!

16 What would we do differently…
We keep learning… and adapting every new session Manage expectations better Get the different pledge sections numbered!

17 Next Steps for NTTC Employer Pledge
Continue with workshops Allow an extra hour at the end to deal with individual queries Consider some themed workshops for particular employer groups eg care homes Establish strong links with other mental health training for employers eg through the Midlands Engine and Nottingham Citizens Develop a local network of workplace champions
