2 WATER AND SANATATION

3 WATER AND SANATATION We’ve read that each person uses about gallons of water per day, although estimates vary. In Chisinau, we are lucky to have easy access to some of the safe treated water—just by turning on the tap. But do we really understand how much we use? An easy to way to understand individual water use is to look at your water bill—how much water you used.

4 WATER AND SANATATION As consumers we use:
about 35 liters taking a shower for 5 minutes every day, 20 liters visiting the toilet, equipped with an economical sink (without leaks), 5 times a day, 15 liters - washing dishes with overlapping tap when soaping three times a day or using a dishwasher, 10 liters fast-cleaning products and hands 5 times a day, about 15 liters doing wet cleaning, about 5 liters watering daily flowers.

5 WATER AND SANATATION The use of water by a family of 3 people includes: • taking a shower: * 3 = liters, • toilet visit: 4-5 * 3 * 6 = liters, • washing dishes with three meals a day: 3 * 35 = 105 liters, • washing products: 8-10 liters, • personal hygiene: 30 * 3 = 90 liters, • washing with a washing machine: 45 liters, • general apartment needs: 8-10 liters, If the daily result is multiplied by 30 days for most procedures and 2-4 for washing, you will get about 12-13 thousand liters per month per family.

6 SHOULD WE REDUCE THE USE OF WATER?
Our planet is 75% covered by water – that’s why we’re called the Blue Planet But 97.5% of that water is salt water. We only have 2.5% of freshwater to drink.Yet, on a daily basis, we use 10 billion tons of freshwater worldwide. Water shortage is a bigger problem today than ever before. According to the World Health Organization, 80% of all diseases in the developing world are water related. By 2025, the United Nation estimates that 30% of the world’s population residing in 50 countries will face water shortage.

7 HOW CAN WE REDUCE THE USE OF WATER?
We suggest that everyone should do a water audit on their usage, turn off the tap when brushing teeth, take a shorter shower, always use full loads in a washing machine and dishwasher fix dripping taps, install a water meter.
