4 French vs English Before the fighting, the English and French rivaled is many aspects. -Trade -Land -Military -Resources

5 Rivalry and Conflict The history of New France was marked by struggles for power. The French fought with the First Nations People. They also fought the British and their American colonies.

6 Think-Pair-Share Why would Native bands (First Nations People) ally themselves with European powers?

8 Rivalry and Conflict There are some major wars between the French and English in North America. Each conflict was a European war that had been carried over to the colonies.

9 King William’s War Began in 1689 and ended in 1697.
It was fought to block King Louis XVI’s ambitions to expand his overseas territory. Many raids against Britain’s Thirteen Colonies.

10 Treaty was signed which returned all captured territories to their original owners.
This included Acadia.

11 Acadia Champlain started a settlement of sixty settlers in “Port Royal”. The settlement was abandoned but a few settlers stayed. They would become strong farmers and form their own colony called “Acadia”.

12 Queen Anne’s War Began in 1704 and ended in 1713.
The English captured Acadia and failed in capturing Quebec. In Europe, Britain defeated France in major battles.

13 The treaty gave French territories to the English in Canada and other parts of the world.
The Treaty of Utrecht left unclear boundaries.
